Last cleanup of 2020 is done. Had to have a solo clean as we had a COVID scare amongst our volunteers. I saw others from our group picking up solo also and I want to thank all of our group members who keep our neighborhood clean a Happy New Year! #cleanbeaches #coastalcleanup #surfrider #caltrandistrict7 #adoptahighway #trashtag #dontlitter #donttrashtheplanet... #recycle #reuse #noplastic #giveahoot #dontmesstheearth #cleanstreets #cleanstreetscalheights #keeplongbeachclean #dontpollute #fastfoodisaproblem #greenplanet #giveahoot #dontpollute #ecology #fastfoodnation #bethechange #keepcaliforniabeautuful See more

Our Clean Streets crew picked up just over 180 lbs off our local freeway ramps today. This is a ongoing issue that we are trying to help remedy with our weekly clean ups. #cleanbeaches #coastalcleanup #surfrider #caltrandistrict7 #adoptahighway #trashtag #dontlitter #donttrashtheplanet... #recycle #reuse #noplastic #giveahoot #dontmesstheearth #cleanstreets #cleanstreetscalheights #keeplongbeachclean #dontpollute #fastfoodisaproblem #greenplanet #giveahoot #dontpollute #ecology #fastfoodnation #bethechange #keepcaliforniabeautuful See more

Since I don’t have an alley (today was an alley cleanup day) I did a cleanup at Pacific and Wardlow. We could really use some garbage cans over there. Hopefully next year our alley cleanups will be back to usual. Stay tuned. Stacey

Article written by @frances.s.stone that appeared in the latest edition of The Heights Newsletter. We would love to see your Cal Height's dog, please post below! "I am not really a dog person, but for the last few months I feel like a judge at the Westminster Kennel Club looking for Best in Show. Sitting in my comfy recliner, reading a book, doing puzzles, or simply gazing out the window I am rewarded with a constant stream of dogs and their humans parading by. After a whil...e I have come to know them well, although they seldom see me. You can almost tell time by the young teen who solemnly walks by with her little fox terrier. Ear buds firmly in place, she looks like she drew the short straw for doggy-walking duty. I am always amazed by the fellow who walks his three huge Great Danes. He must be some kind of dog whisperer. The dogs walk perfectly by his side, never lunging ahead or barking even when tiny dogs lunge at them. Mornings bring a trio of beautiful Dalmatians walking together. Suddenly for a few days there were only two. I must admit I got so worried next time they came by I ran out of the house to ask. Thankfully it was only the senior dog that declined to join in the morning jaunts. For some reason I always get a giggle by the many young athletic men who seem to own a variety of little white puffball dogs. They are usually gazing at their cell phones, only stopping to dutifully pick up any droppings their canine pals leave behind. That brings us to Fergus, the Goldendoodle, all 120 lbs. of him, that lives across the street. I call him the neighborhood dog. Although Diana and Clive are his doggie parents, Fergus has a very devoted following by several of the neighbors. They join together to take him on long walks. He comes to their backyards where they present him with endless squeaking rubber toys, shaped like beer bottles, which he loves to play with and soon destroys. While my husband and I are friends with Fergus, he shows much greater affinity for his Uncles and Aunt who shower him with love and affection. I admit I might be a tad jealous. Many years ago a common name for a dog was Fido, taken from the word fidelis, faithful, and isn’t that just what we need in these uncertain times, a friend who will always be there."

FRIDAY BRIEFING WE WANT CANDY Getting into the holiday mindset now. Many in the neighborhood will be observing Yom Kippur this weekend while others start to d...ecorate their homes fall festive. I woke up on Tuesday to all things pumpkin. Just like clockwork, autumn arrives with its serenade and brings the smell of pumpkin spice lattes, muffins, ice cream, candles, and just about everything else. CANDY WANTED: Folks, we are looking for bags, and bags, and bags of candy to be donated from you for the special treat bags distributed on Halloween. I mean, we are looking for A LOT of candy so if you happen to go to Costco or Smart & Final and see those mounds of variety packs, throw a few in your cart for your friends at the BKBIA. The kids in the neighborhood will thank you later. There were some tasty flash events this week and a big dose of the best sounds from the 1960s from our Knights of the Round (Turn)Table. And have you heard? Pac-12 football plans to return for a seven-game season? Pardon me, I must clarifythere will be USC Trojan Football in our future Coming along: Check out the Allery (art-alley at Burlinghall and Atlantic) as it is ready for an enjoyable outdoor dining experience. This space will be shared by Ejs, Dutch’s Brewhouse, Wood & Salt, and Bixby’s Brooklyn Deli. You can order your food and sit safely outdoors in a nice environment. Shout out to the Long Beach Community Foundation for the grant to make this possible. There’s a First Friday next week already? Sound the shofar, Blair #bixbyknollsstrong
