Cal Club 16.01.2021

Thank you everyone that attended the Andy Poterfield Memorial SCCA U.S.Majors at Auto Club Speedway this weekend. It was a different type of event and there were many rules imposed by the track and the county, but everyone did an amazing job following the them and complying and we had a good weekend. There will always be one or two that will not follow rules and ruined it for all of us, but thanks to everyone policing themselves we did not have those issues. I appreciate e...veryone being patient at registration and for all the offers of help! There are many pictures posted below, please enjoy, copy, share them. Your photo guys were Eric Rosenberg and Brad Eelles. Caliphotgraphy were also there, check out their web site. A HUGE thank you to our volunteer race officials who worked long hours so that we can put on these events. They are truly the best of the best. Please say thank you, give them a fist or elbow pump next time you see one of them!!! See more

A few more things for the U.S. Majors at Auto Club: We need everyone to go to registration. Registration will be short handed this upcoming weekend, so please be patinet with the ladies. Some things that will help getting through on site registration quicker: 1. Have your SCCA membership/license in hand... 2. Have your log book open to your annual waiver page or let them know you need to go to tech 3. If paying cash have exact change 4. If making changes to your entry, please try to email the office to let them know as soon as possible, check your results sheets BEFORE racing to make sure you are in the correct class and your membership number is correct 5. Sign the online wiaver for SCCA https://calclub.speedwaiver.com/pigbt Send that link to your crew members so they can sign it as well, but be aware that Auto Club Speedway will have TWO waivers that you will need to sign 6. If your crew needs a weekend membership, have them do it BEFORE coming to the track http://join.scca.com 7. Have your helmet with a 2020 sticker ready to check for a 2021 sticker, if you do not have a 2020 sticker on your helmet you will need to go see tech to have gear looked at 8. Ladies will be busy, make sure BEFORE you leave the table at registration you have an armband (two if you are running test day) and if you have an annual on your car a Tech Sticker We appreciate your help, let's have a fun, safe event! Safe travels and see you at Auto Club Speedway

Hi all We have added crew member sign up to motorsportsreg. To make things easier at registration you can have your crew member sign up with their own account on motorsportsreg. It will ask them what car they are crewing for! Also, if they need to be in a hot area, such as checking tire temps in the hot pits or holding an umbrella for you at grid they must be members. If not already a member they can get a weekend membership for $20 ( a bargain to be covered under insura...nce!) If they need a full membership or a weekend membership have them do so before Auto Club if possible Join.SCCA.Com Again this is all an effort to minimize the lines at registration, as we said before we will be short handed Thanks for your help

Cal Club 29.12.2020

We wish everyone a happy, healthy holiday and a wonderful new year!

Cal Club 2021 Board of Governors had a meeting today and a tour of the progress on the new track

Written by Steve Pogson from the Pacific Northwest for our Volunteer Race Officials: T’was the night before Racemas, and those at the track hoped COVID would not be back. The cars were all parked by their haulers with care, In hopes that racers soon would be there. The workers were nestled all snug in their beds;... While visions of flagging danced in their heads. With some in their campers, and some in tents; Had just settled their brains form a test day intense. When out on the track arose such a clatter, They sprang from their beds to see what’s the matter. From the edge of the track you could see a big flash, It was the TA2’s out having a blast. With the moon on the breast of the pavement below, Gave the luster of midday to objects that go. The night was so long, it seemed to go on and on, all we wanted was to put our whites on. With assignments in hand the workers did scatter. From the tower the land line crackled and came to life, Bonnie whistled, and shouted, and called them by name: "Now, Holly! now, Ali! now Hot Mike and Miss T! On Teresa! on Gail! on Kimmy and Ryan!, now Bunkie, now Jim now Becky, on Cathy on Robi and Adam! Come down from the stations, come down from the wall, Now go back to sleep before I black flag you all! But I heard someone exclaim, as they walked out of sight Merry Racemas to all, and to all a good night! See more

Hey everyone, just got a note from Auto Club Speedway they have 5-gallon pails of race fuel they are selling at a discount. They have a supply of Sunoco Maximal 116 Leaded Race Fuel available at $40/pail. Which I’m told is half off what it usually costs. Anyone interested email me at [email protected] and I will put you in contact with the right people! ... https://www.sunocoracefuels.com/fuel/maximal

Thank you everyone that came out to Auto Club this weekend. It was a tough weekend in so many ways. Having to deal with all the COVID restrictions, not being able to have family and friends visit, but the most difficult part was losing one of our members. On Saturday, during Group 3 qualifying driver James Whitton suffered a heart attack, the ES crews did everything possible, Jim was transported to the hospital, but unfortunately there was nothing anyone could do. Jim had been racing since 1970, with his lovely wife Pat by his side. He raced FV's , S2000 and was one of the first SM's. Pat would like to thank everyone for their support, kind words, helping load Jim's car on the trailer and mostly for all the love from all. RIP Jim, we will miss you.

Tax deductible donation of a race car needed Hello fellow Cal Club members. I serve on the board of www.DiscoveryCube.com. If you drive down I-5 through Santa Ana you will see a giant cube tilted up on a corner. The is the Discovery Science Foundation, a children’s science museum. There is one in Los Angeles, too, but without the cube. The museum provides hands-on science education that delights, challenges, and encourages kids. The Discovery Science Foundation has made a po...sitive difference in thousands of lives for 35 years. The foundation achieves this goal through four core initiatives: STEM proficiency, early childhood education, healthy living, and environmental stewardship. These future-forward initiatives inspire educators, their students, and all of us committed to learning for life. Each year children from poorer school districts are supported through various programs to do field trips to the museums. DFC is planning on a new physics exhibit. The plan is to use car racing to explain some of the principles. In the spirit of the hands on nature of the exhibits it is planned to have race cars children can assemble and race on a gravity course. They can modify cars with different weights and other design options. The desire is to have a real life race car in the exhibit area. It should be a car that looks like a race car to children, and preferably not overly large. For this reason an open wheel is probably the ideal choice, but other cars are being considered, too. If you have a car that is not suitable for racing any longer, but you want to get a tax break, consider donating it to DFC. If you want to do so, please contact Cal Club member and #22 GT2 Corvette racer Oli Thordarson at [email protected].

Hi Everyone! It's time to vote for our Area Director. The Area Director is our liaison to the SCCA, they serve on the SCCA board and get things done! If you did not ask for a mail in ballot, you need to sign in to your SCCA account, go to Member Resources, Click on the Surveys and vote! Here is Jason's write up: Jaso...Continue reading
