Hi everyone! My name is Riya and I’m a third year Molecular and Cell Biology major with a minor in Toxicology, on a pre-med track. I’m from the Sacramento area, however, I was actually born in Nepal and actually went to over 12 schools growing up as I moved from state to state in the US. But I’ve got to say, out of everywhere, the Bay Area has definitely been my favorite place! Outside of the Career Center, I’m also the Social VP of Kappa Gamma Delta, a pre-health sorority he...re at Cal and volunteer at the Children’s Hospital in Oakland. When I’m not grinding in Main Stacks or running around from class to class, I love painting, singing, watching anything on Netflix, and reading YA books. I’m super excited to be a Pre-Health advisor this year and I hope I can help everyone on their own unique pre-health journeys! #Pre-Health #CalBears #Cal #CareerReadiness #CareerDevelopment #UCBerkeley #HireCal #Peer2Peer #CalPeers See more

Student Internship Spotlight @ jaz_no26 spent her summer 2020 as a Web Design Intern at Payout LLC and found the position through Handshake. Summary of Work My day-to-day job consisted of creating graphics to promote our products and to continue bringing attention to our social media page. I also was tasked with planning for the premiere of our new deck of cards!... What did you learn from the experience? One of the most important things I learned from this was to lean more into my own interests in my career and moving away from the mindset of weighing future careers on the amount of money I make. I learned more about myself regarding what interests me and what elements I would like to bring into my field of study. This internship helped me learn more about the digital marketing industry and how much I wanted to incorporate design and art into my career. Despite my internship being remote, I enjoyed taking a part of Playout because I was able to meet with my team monthly over Zoom despite being in a different time zone. I think that having a virtual internship provides more opportunities for students to work around the world without restricting themselves to jobs that are a few minutes away and encourages people to look into jobs that interest them because it is less of a time commitment. What advice would you give your peers who may be interested in a position like this? Get out of your comfort zone with internships and apply for positions that include your passion, consistently update your resume and LinkedIn, tailor your cover letter to every position, explore the company's websites and products as well as being prepared to come up with campaign ideas on the spot. Also never be discouraged to apply for a position that seems out of reach! #UCBerkeley #Cal #HireCal #Internship #StudentSpotlight

Hi! My name is Julie, and I'm a senior majoring in Integrative Biology -- with an emphasis in Integrative Human Biology. I'm beyond excited to meet and serve you as a pre-health peer advisor for the upcoming year! I know navigating the pre-health pathway can be challenging sometimes, especially in a big school like Cal. I'm here to help you and provide resources along your journey, so please do not be hesitant to stop by and talk to me about different organizations on campus,... opportunities outside of school, or just life in general. I'm currently pre-med, so if you want to talk to me about prerequisites, research, and volunteer opportunities, I can help you with them. I also have been exploring different health professions, so if you're interested, I will be more than happy to talk with you! Outside of studying, I was a part of different research labs on campus such as Language and Cognition Development Lab and Undergraduate Lab at Berkeley, and I can share my experiences with them if you drop by! Currently, I am serving as an events/ outreach director at The Music Connection, which is a club that provides free music lessons for kids. During my free time, I love to go out and try different food/ dessert places, take naps, and play tennis or piano. Hope to meet you soon at the Career Center! #PreHealth #CalBears #Cal #CareerReadiness #CareerDevelopment #UCBerkeley #HireCal #Peer2Peer #CalPeers See more
