Saving the lives of hundreds of underage kittens in Calaveras each year is always one of our proudest accomplishments (and "kitten season" is our busiest time of year!). We're here to take the babies in, parcel them out to foster volunteers for whom we provide training and support, and ensure the bitties get proper nourishment, lots of love, and any medical care they need (and are spayed/neutered and vaccinated before adoption). But this lifesaving is a community-wide effort.... We rely on you, our beloved supporters, to help offset the incredible cost of all this each year by helping us with the basics: formula and supplies. So it's time once again for our annual Itty Bitty Kitty Formula Drive! We've changed brands of kitten formula this year to one recommended by top experts in the field. It's available on Amazon and also directly from our friends at Spence Ranch Feed & Supply in Altaville (right next door to our adoption center!). The great folks at Spence have special-ordered it per our request, and have it on their shelves and ready to be purchased and donated. You can do that in person at their store Monday through Saturday. More a give-from-home type? The same formula, plus a number of essential kitten-raising items, are on our Amazon Wishlist and can be delivered to us directly with just a few clicks. Free shipping for Prime members on most selections! In addition, to formula, we desperately need Miracle Nipples (yes, the name makes us snort too), angled feeding bottles, and digital kitchen scales (the kind with bowls) for weighing the little nuggets. You'll see all this, and more, on our Wishlist. Thank you in advance to everyone who can help us to once again Save the Bitties in 2021! https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/22ULFQ8ITMKE8

Introducing CatCat, a gorgeous young adult calico who's currently the queen of our Cat Lounge. CatCat was left behind when her owners moved away, and previously lived exclusively outdoors. She's adapted to life inside without a single hiccup and absolutely loves draping herself across the couch, napping in the windowsills, and spending time in our enclosed "catio." Because CatCat enjoys the inside life so much, we'd like her to continue to live in the house, or be an indoor/outdoor kitty. Meet CatCat at our Angels Camp adoption center Wednesday through Sunday from 11-5.

Things that make you go "squeeeee!" These five butterballs are currently in foster care and will be available in just another week or two. We don't keep a waiting list (otherwise, we'd never have any animals available to adopt), so be sure to Like our page to ensure you see the details when they're ready for homes.

A trio of loveliness for all you herding dog fans! Meet Lily, Iris, and Rose, seven-month-old cattle dog mix girls who will be ready for adoption this week. They're friendly, bouncy, playful, and full of energy -- everything you'd expect from cattle dog pups. We're working on leash training with them (they have no prior leash experience and initially flopped like fish on a line, but they're improving!). We've separated the girls into individual suites at our shelter, because ...they were raised together and had become overly dependent on one another. They need to be adopted separately but could happily live with other dogs in their new homes. We will be doing these adoptions by appointment for COVID safety reasons (no walk-ins to our shelter hoping to meet them, please). Interested in adding one of these cuties to your home? Please follow the steps below: Call and leave us a voicemail on Tuesday, 1/19 after 10:00 a.m. Tell us you’re interested in adopting one of the cattle dog girls and be sure to leave your phone number for a return call. Do not call sooner than 1/19 at 10:00 we will not honor earlybird calls. We will return calls to the first callers late Tuesday morning and set up adoption appointments for Wednesday. You must be available Wednesday to come in and adopt between 11:00 and 4:00, and be prepared to take your new pup home with you that day (the girls are being spayed tomorrow and will be all ready to start their new lives!).

Happy 99th Birthday (Sunday) to one of our favorite people in the universe, Betty White! A lifelong crusader for animals, Betty's tireless work on behalf of our creature friends is an inspiration to us all. Thank you for being a friend, Betty.

We are honored to have received a $5 pet supplies gift card from Avery's Pawsitive Change. Fourteen-year-old Pennsylvania resident Avery donates gift cards to animal shelters all over the country, and raises the money herself via her GoFundMe page. Avery has done this for almost a year, all while battling Ewing sarcoma. "I am hoping this gift card will help a little," Avery said in her letter to us. "There are so many animals in this world that need help and to be cared for......You have a hard job every day and most times it's overlooked by many people. I hope this brightens your day to know that someone is thinking of you." You certainly did brighten our day, Avery, AND you inspired us! Thank you so much for choosing us to receive a gift card. We wish you all the best with your project and with your recovery.
