Gold Star Regiment Marching Band Update July 20, 2020: Hello CHISMD students, family, and friends, I hope everyone has been having a safe and relaxing summer as we prepare for the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.... The challenges of living and operating in our current climate has created ever-changing and fluid situations. Based on an abundance of caution and concern for student health and well-being, we have made the difficult decision to not field a competitive field show for the Fall 2020 season. All camps, rehearsals, and competition dates have been cancelled for this coming season. The Gold Star Regiment will look to represent Cajon High School and the City of San Bernardino at parades in Spring 2021 pending safe reopening environments. Additionally, pending additional information, we will be tentatively supporting Cajon Cowboy Football and Boys' and Girls' Basketball teams starting January 2021, based on California Interscholastic Federation's adjustment of the sports calendars. To encourage further participation in the marching and pageantry arts and support our Class of 2021 seniors, I am personally pledging $500 in scholarships marked for graduating seniors to participate in Drum Corps International. The scholarship window will open in the Spring semester and will be awarded on an application basis upon acceptance to any DCI drum and bugle corps. More details will come on this scholarship in January. All the best, Mr. Phung

JULY 2, 2020--- IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT: Parent/Guardian Questionnaire: sbcusd.com/opening SBCUSD Staff Questionnaire: sbcusd.com/return... Good Afternoon, this is Harold Vollkommer, interim superintendent for San Bernardino City Schools and I want to provide you with an important update regarding the start of the 2020-21 school year. At our most recent board meeting, our Board of Education unanimously approved in a distance learning model for all students. This decision was made with safety of students, staff, and families as a primary consideration, given the recent and significant rise of COVID cases in our community. After the beginning of the school year and if and only when we can do so safely, we will begin to offer, in-person check-in and support services for small groups of students and eventually transition to a hybrid or blended learning model. The date for this transition has not been determined and will be made in the context of our community’s needs in consultation with the department of public health and based on final approval by our board. And for those families who desire distance learning for an extended period of time, we will offer that program as well. As we continue to plan for a successful school year, it is important to hear your thoughts and preferences; to this end we have initiated questionnaires for both team members and families. Please help us best serve you by completing the questionnaires by their required due dates. We will continue to provide updates as we get closer to the start of the school year. Thank you again for your patience as we navigate this very fluid situation. Again, our primary objective’s continue to be keeping our school community safe and providing high quality instruction to our students. Thank you for your attention and have a safe and relaxing holiday weekend.

Hello everyone! As we enter our second week of distance learning, just a quick housekeeping reminder, based on clarified policy from last week. Participation for this class will be tracked and logged for district and site records every Friday. Please try to submit or otherwise interact with your work every Friday by 2pm to make sure you are included in the weekly reports, which are due at 3pm for teachers. Grading for the class is on a credit/no credit basis; if you are not g...iven credit for any assignment, revision suggestions and late work are accepted. No credit for a given week will NOT impact weekly participation reports. Grades are input into Aeries- if you submitted work through the SmartMusic or Soundtrap applications, I am monitoring all of your work and updating Aeries. Don't flip out if you are doing assignments on those apps and Google Classrooom marks it as missing. Lastly, I am working on developing a moderated online community on which instrumental music department (band, orchestra, winter guard, and guitar) students and parents can "hang" online virtually using the app Discord. The server has text and voice channels accessible for students and parents alike for discussions- music and socially related. The invitation link is https://discord.gg/QQUMPf
