HOLY WATERS is a place off a visual that artist Patrick Thai had where oceans are pure and white like the hair of a very aged, but wise being of light. This place is off the shoreline of a sacred island in his imagination. Holy Waters is oil on linen, 5x7 and part of our current Landscapes group show. Monarch Butterflies are often found on Day of the Dead altars. They are a manifestation of liberated souls, a symbol of transformation. For this painting, artist Michelle Waters was thinking a lot about everything humanity has gone through this year and about how transformative this year has been for so many of us. PSYCHE, Acrylic on cradled wood panel, 4" x 4" and 3 others paintings by Michelle are part of our upcoming Tiny Treasures XV exhibit which opens Nov 21. Dia de los muertos 2020 at Grand Park Downtown L.A. On Thursday we visited their annual Day of the Dead altar display. We go every year and this year, though there are fewer altars, they still impacted us very much. I try to read aloud the names of many of those who have passed, especially the children. Maestra Ofelia Esparza @ofrenda1 and her daughter got there just as we were admiring her altar. She was doing an interview/photo shoot for the Associated Press. ... The altars are all personally and culturally relevant to LA, with the 10 main large-scale altar installations representing the losses and causes of this past year. The altars feature a 360-degree view to maximize social distancing. Up through Nov 4th. More info: linktr.ee/grandparkla
