CACJ supports no-money pretrial release for misdemeanors and many other charges - but everyone must have an opportunity be released -- #SB10 #Prop25 will keep too many people in jail -- we can do better. https://cacj.org/page/NoOnProp25

CACJ Opposes Prop 25 We are grateful for the recent ruling in Humphrey which mandates individualized bail/no-money pretrial release conditions -- this is a big step forward. SB 10 has too many flaws -- we can do better and Humphrey gives us time to do so. https://cacj.org/page/NoOnProp25

CALIFORNIA’S PROPOSITION 20 WOULD ROLL BACK YEARS OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM The ballot initiative, supported by police, corporations, and even big grocery chains, would use more taxpayer money to incarcerate people, rather than invest in other social services.

CACJ Opposes Prop 25 We are concerned about industries profiting from pretrial detention--risk assessment tool entities and bail co.'s have both spent millions for and against #Prop25. #SB10 is too flawed and we can do better. ... https://cacj.org/page/NoOnProp25 See more

CACJ Opposes Prop 25 - Calls for alternative Reform The CACJ Board of Governors has voted to OPPOSE Prop 25 because it relies on racially biased risk assessment & creates new categories of "no release" presumptions, including misdos. We support reform of current system to guarantee no-money release but #SB10 #Prop25 falls short.... https://cacj.org/page/NoOnProp25

#AB1506, which will ensure that police shootings of unarmed citizens are independently investigated, has just passed out of the California State Senate! Thank you Assemblymember Kevin McCarty and #CASenate for taking bold steps to ensure that police are held accountable.

CACJ's Batson reform bill AB 3070 is up for a vote in the Senate. We are getting support from many sources, including the LA Times editorial board, but there are still some Senators who need to be persuaded to vote "yes". If you live in Senate District 3 with Senator Bill Dodd, District 12 with Senator Anna Caballero, or District 13 with Senator Jerry Hill we need you to call or email their offices immediately, expressing your support of AB 3070 and asking them to vote "yes"... Earlier today the State Senate Appropriations Committee passed CACJ’s sponsored bill AB 3070 to address implicit racial bias In the use of peremptory challenges. The bill now heads to the Senate Floor for a vote in the next week. The Senate Appropriations Committee also approved AB 1506 which requires any police shooting of an unarmed person to be automatically reviewed by the Attorney General or Independent State Prosecutor. CACJ supports AB 1506 and is also calling for it t...o be strengthened to specify the creation of an Independent office. For those who were able to post and share after the request that went out yesterday afternoon, thank you! Look for more CACJ Legislative updates in the coming days.
