Oceans full of fish. Plentiful pollination of crops from healthy bee populations Clean drinking water that requires less treatment before drinking... Interventions that restore ecosystem are capable of giving a return up to 75 TIMES higher than the original investment. ... Now that's good business! Tyler Prize Winner and economist Pavan Sukhdev calculated this return-on-investment in 2012, and we now have dozens of examples to show the true value of nature's 'free' services. We are saddened by the recent passing of Tyler Prize Laureate, Dr. Mario Molina. An inquisitive and brilliant scientist, his last two papers dealt with the pivotal role of face masks in defending the general population from COVID-19 transmission. Dubbed "The Scientist Who Saved The Ozone Layer", Dr. Molina was the recipient of the 1983 Tyler Prize, as well as the 1995 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, and the 2013 Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The Tyler Prize is deeply saddened by the passing of 2012 Tyler Prize Laureate, Kirk R. Smith. A champion of environmental and global public health, Dr. Smith focused on indoor air pollution as a health hazard for some of the world's most vulnerable citizens. He painstakingly recorded soot & hydrocarbon concentrations in rural dwellings across China, India, Africa, and Latin America, connecting this with high incidences of asthma and other pollution-related illnesses. Nature provides us water free of charge. But when something is free, we often fail to value it. June 17th is World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. Please help promote awareness of efforts to value Nature's Services by visiting our friends at the Natural Capital Project : https://naturalcapitalproject.stanford.edu/
Scientists forewarned the public about our declining epidemiological environment, and the growing threat of catastrophic pandemics. Here is a quote from the 1996 scientific paper "Global Change and Human Susceptibility to Disease", published by Tyler Prize Laureates Gretchen C. Daily and Paul Ehrlich more than two decades ago.
