TBT Pictures from our overnight trip to Las Vegas last year! We took 4 helicopters and three airplanes on a long cross-country, the long way, to Las Vegas through Blythe, Havasu, and Bullhead. Each airplane had an extra helicopter student in the back seat to switch out with a flying helicopter student for the return trip day #2 to maximize the experience. Good times!
We made it home last night but it was after dark so we don't have any arrival pictures. It was a long day and a long trip and we all went home and went straight to sleep so I'm updating everyone today! We had a short photo shoot with our high-end Chevy Astro, which we adopted as an honorary member of our flight line, before leaving Deming. Haocheng got to land in a tight spot in the hills South of Phoenix. Ryan and Isaac got a shot of the sunset as they approached Palm Spring...s from a view slightly above the cloud layer they were approaching. In all it was a very memorable journey. Our airplane and helicopter students both got a first-hand immersive experience into what cross-country flying is all about and I know they'll never forget the lessons they learned. Those two will have come away from their training with us with a level of experience far above what their number of flight hours indicate and be much better suited toward forward-thinking and decision-making. If you end up in the back of either of their airplane or helicopter, rest easy. You're in good hands!
We got some decent headway. Saw a lot of sweet military planes at Dyess AFB as well as the helicopters at Fort Bliss! Quick lunch in El Paso and ended the day in beautiful Deming NM where we got a sweet van for the night to drive to our hotel! Tomorrow is the last leg of the journey and we'll be home sweet home!
We were long delayed in Shreveport today. As expected we were only able to get as far as Abeline, TX. Once we got out from under the clouds in Louisiana, Isaac managed to snap this pic of the scenery in east Texas! Tomorrow should be a more relaxed day as we make our way through El Paso and we should be home by the end of the day Tuesday! Blue skies and tail winds!
These two private pilots have had a lot of learning experiences on this trip! Today's lesson? Weather! We wanted to shoot straight back through Dallas, the way we came in, but the weather said no. We decided to get around the low pressure system in central Texas by heading South around it. Now we're in Shreveport Louisiana!
We made it to Sevierville to drop of our trusty 7BA, picked up the new ship and made some headway back toward home! We got as far as Memphis. Big shout it to Eric Spitzer, and the Garsts down at Sevier County Choppers for taking the best care of us and providing a quick turn-around! It's been an amazing journey so far and a great opportunity for our students in the undertaking of this mission. Both Haocheng, and Isaac are brand new private pilots and have had the opportunity to put their new skills to the test traversing nearly the entire U.S. Weather permitting we should be back home in 3 days!
Three days down! After passing over the Red River into Arkansas, and the Mississippi into Tennessee we've made it to Nashville the music city! Tomorrow we will reach our final destination in Sevierville, TN to drop off our yellow R22 and pick up an R22 instrument trainer to bring back home to riverside.
We made to Dallas! There's not a whole lot going on in West Texas, but it does say something about the size of Texas considering we were unable to cross all of the state in a single day's flight. It'll be a couple hours into tomorrow before we finally pass out of Texas into Arkansas.
