Movements of nets to brims. Tracing this material through our supply chain in South America where nets are moving from fishing communities to our central warehouse in Chile for sorting and then ontoour supply chain partner @greenspot_upcl in Puerto Montt for recycling.Maintaining traceability through the process, the material undergoes two cleaning processes and then is pelletized prior to moving to the brim factory where these nets will be sent off for a life of adventuring within each recycled brim. #NetstoBrims :@whoisjurgen

Incorporating over 25 square feet of discarded fishing nets, Jenga Ocean is made from NetPlus,100% recycled fishing nets, and packaged with recycled materials. Hand drawn and inspired by the sea, the artwork behind Jenga Ocean is the work of Lake Buckley (@lakebuckley) - a surfer, designer, artist, and explorer. The sense of wonder that characterizes Lake’s artistic process is also connected to her relationship with the ocean.

A snapshot of the NetPlus process. Our NetPlus material is made from 100% fishing nets, 100% of the time. All nets that enter our warehouse are tagged and logged, creating full traceability of our signature raw material as it makes its way into products designed to last for a lifetime. #NetPlus

Thankful for the participation from 50+ partnering communities throughout Chile, Argentina, and Perú in helping us collect 2.3 million pounds of discarded fishing nets to date. Over the last 8 years, we have focused on a community-based model to educate fisheries, provide financial incentives and collect back nets at their end of life before they have a chance to enter the marine environment. #NetPlus

Throwing shade on plastic pollution. A graphical journey of how our NetPlus material - constructed from 100% recycled fishing nets - made its way into @patagonia’s hat brims. A small step in a bigger mission to reuse existing waste and reduce the need for new plastics. Thankful for the dedication and innovation from the Patagonia team to reimagine responsible supply chains. #NetPlus

Fishing net waste is a burden for fishermen and our environment. Discarded nets offer a narrow view into the complex issue of plastic pollution in our ocean where natural materials were replaced by plastic alternatives without end of life solutions. Through education and innovation, for us and the fishermen, we can collect and reuse this harmful material. This replaces dependency on new plastics, making it one of the many tools in a zero waste system we must create to help rebuild a cleaner and safer planet for generations to come. #NetstoBrims

Roxana Schteinbarg is the cofounder of the Institute for Whale Conservation (@ICB.Argentina), and we have been fortunate to learn about her life’s work protecting whales. Roxana and her team are a big reason why we have expanded our fishing net collection programs to Argentina, where we are now transforming nets collected across Argentina into our NetPlus material for @Patagonia’s hat brims. On a mission to prevent entanglements and keep our ocean free of plastic, Roxana and team continue to support our initiative, working alongside us to forge relationships with the fishing communities in order to educate fishermen on how we can now create a net positive solution for their previously discarded waste.

A Net Plus. We’ve teamed up with @Patagonia to integrate NetPlus, our fully traceable 100% recycled fishing net material, into Patagonia hats. Below the surface of every hat brim hides more than 23 grams of plastic -- so we spent the last five years on an adventure with Patagonia’s supply chain to reimagine the way hats are made. Repurposing over 71,000 pounds of discarded nets in the first year alone, this project is expanding our impacts to educate and empower fishing communities. It’s a small step in a longer journey we are on with Patagonia to re-use existing waste and reduce the need for new plastics. Creating a net positive solution to fishing net waste -- one hat brim at a time! #NetstoBrims
