2019 Farm Open House and Plant Sale. On April 27th and 28th the Burbank Farm hosted it's annual Open House and Plant Sale. Hundreds participated over the course of the weekend enjoying delicious refreshments, spectacular weather and the Farm in verdant green. Many attended Robert Kourik's talks that centered around the concepts in his newest book "Lazy-Ass Gardening". Plant sales were a huge success and many visitors also availed themselves of the opportunity to explore the Farm with volunteer docents. Don't miss this event next year!

Arbor Day at the Farm Forty-eight third-grade students from Parkside School visited the Farm on Wednesday March 13th for a rain-delayed Arbor Day celebration. The students and guests were welcomed and introduced to the Farm by Gail Lee, the Farm’s Director. Students divided into two groups. Each group planted a tree, the traditional Arbor Day activity, with Farm Curator Alex MacLean, who explained the process to provide a tree with a healthy start. While one group was plantin...g their tree, the other group was off with Farm docents Donna Diehl, Kathy Deichmann, and Patty Levenberg on a tour and scavenger hunt. Some of the items on their hunt were: a Wisteria seed, a leaf from Burbank’s Thornless Blackberry, the husk of a fallen Chestnut, as well as other leaves and seeds from all over the Farm. They seemed to relish the search and it led them to explore with docents who could explain the plants, the history of the Farm, and Burbank’s contributions. Along the way, many of the students crossed paths with Fred Bollinger, a long-time Farm volunteer who is currently 102 years old. Fred recounted his experience meeting Luther Burbank on Arbor Day in 1922 when he was a student at Pleasant Hill Grammar School in Sebastopol. After all that activity, everyone shared cupcakes in celebration of Burbank’s birthday before heading back to Parkside. See more
