Just a reminder, Buena Park will resume citations for street sweeping violations next Thursday, April 1st!

Buena Park Police Officers routinely conduct foot patrols throughout the city. With the increased cases of violence across the country against members of the Asian community, we’ve begun to focus on predominately Asian occupied businesses in our city. Foot patrols allow us to get out and meet members of the community and business owners, creating personal connections. They also give members of the community a way to express their concerns, directly to an officer, that they no...rmally would not have called us for. As a side benefit, sometimes we find wonderful places to eat. Like Hella Chicken, located INSIDE the Super 1 Mart. If you see our officers out and about, feel free to snap a pic and tag us in it! Just please do so from a safe distance if they’re conducting any kind of police business. #BPPD #BuenaParkPD #FootPatrol #CommunityInteraction #IfYouSeeSomethingSaySomething @hellachickenbp

IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING! The Buena Park Police Department would like to remind our community members and guests to report any suspicious or unusual activity. Whether at home, work, or just out for a casual walk, we encourage everyone to pay attention to their surroundings and make every effort to notify the police department of suspicious behavior or activity. The "If you see something, say something" campaign is a team effort between the Buena Park Police Departm...ent and community members to help keep our city safe. When citizens report suspicious or unusual activity, law enforcement has a better opportunity to catch criminals or deter crime. We encourage everyone to report suspicious activity by calling the Buena Park Police Department at (714) 562-3902. If you see a crime in progress or have an emergency, call 9-1-1. #BPPD #BuenaParkPD #IfYouSeeSomethingSaySomething #Community #EyesAndEars #ForceMultiplier

Spread Holiday Cheer: Drive Sober This Holiday Season The holidays will feel a bit different this year, but one thing that has not changed is choosing a sober way to go. The Buena Park Police Department encourages the community to make sure every holiday celebration ends with a sober driver. Starting November 30th and through December 15th, the Buena Park Police Department will have additional officers on patrol looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence o...f alcohol or drugs. In addition, officers will be actively looking for other unsafe driving practices speeding, not wearing a seat belt, driving distracted, not yielding to bicyclists or pedestrians to make sure everyone has a safe holiday. 2020 has been a tough year so let’s try and end it on a good note by being safe on the road during the holidays, said Sgt. Shaddow. Taking simple safety measures helps make sure we can all enjoy the holidays. The Buena Park Police Department reminds drivers that driving high does not fly. Marijuana, prescription drugs, and over-the-counter medications may impair, especially in combination with alcohol and other drugs. There’s no joy in a DUI, Sgt. Shaddow said. Sober is the way to go. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. See more

Potential Scam Alert Recently we have noticed an increase in reports of suspicious individuals posing as Southern California Edison employees to distract residents to potentially gain access to their homes and burglarize them. While there are Southern California Edison employees conducting legitimate business, the SCE website reminds residents of the following: - SCE employees always have an SCE photo ID badge and wear a company uniform - Vehicles have permanent SCE logos o...n them SCE also warns residents to be suspicious of anyone who arrives at your house without an appointment asking to check your appliances or wiring, or suggesting that there may be some other electrical problem inside or outside your residence. If you are contacted by any individuals presenting themselves as utility company employees, ask to see their identification. If not provided or they seem suspicious to you, do not give them access to your home and call the Buena Park Police Department non-emergency line at 714-562-3902. Additional information regarding SCE scams can be found at SCE.com/scamalert or by calling SCE at 1-800-655-4555.

This morning while on routine patrol, one of our officers conducted a traffic stop for Vehicle Code violations. During the stop, the officer could smell marijuana coming from inside of the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, 22.3 grams of methamphetamine, $1,045 in cash, and 4 cell phones were located along with the marijuana. The driver was arrested for possession for sales and transportation and was later given a free ride to Orange County Jail. #DrugArrest #SayNopeToDope #BPPD #BuenaParkPD

Stay Awake at the Wheel: Nov. 1-8 is Drowsy Driving Prevention Week When we fall back for Daylight Saving Time sleep patterns may be disrupted and impact our ability to drive safely. To highlight the dangers of driving while sleepy or tired, the Buena Park Police Department joins the Office of Traffic Safety and other agencies across the country in recognizing Drowsy Driving Prevention Week, November 18, 2020.... If you are feeling sleepy, avoid driving or pull off into a rest stop or parking lot, Sgt. Jon Shaddow said. Not having enough rest could have a similar impact as drugs or alcohol. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, being awake for at least 24 hours is the same as having a blood alcohol content of .10%, which is above the legal limit of .08%. The Buena Park Police Department offers these tips to avoid drowsy driving: -> Get enough sleep (at least seven hours a day). -> Stick to a consistent sleep schedule. -> Avoid alcohol or medications that can cause drowsiness. -> If traveling long distances take a break every two hours or 100 miles. -> Take turns with another driver on road trips. -> If you are sleepy, pull over to a safe place like a highway rest area or parking lot and take a 15 to 20-minute nap. Signs of driver fatigue include frequent yawning, daydreaming, trouble remembering the last few miles driven, missing an exit, or drifting from lanes. The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) maintains more than 80 safety roadside rest areas across the state. To find a rest area near you, go to http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov, or download the free QuickMap app on Google Play and in the App Store. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Point of Contact: Sgt. J. REMINDER! Daylight Saving Time ends at 2am on Sunday, November, 1st. So don't forget to turn your clocks back 1 hour and enjoy that extra hour of sleep! This is also a good time to check your smoke detector batteries and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends checking for vehicle safety recalls. Visit NHTSA.gov/recalls and enter your vehicle’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN). In seconds, you'll know if your vehicle has an unrepaired safety recall.

BPPD Dispatchers provide a reminder during this Halloween season and always, just like in the story of Little Red Riding Hood: Don't Talk to Strangers. The wolf pretended to be nice to Little Red Riding Hood, but he really had a hidden agenda. Be careful who you trust! Don't Share Personal Information. Little Red Riding Hood told the wolf where she was going and why, and let him know what was in her basket.... Just like in the story, personal information can be used by criminals to hurt you or your loved ones. Children Should Obey Their Parents. Little Red Riding Hood’s mother told her to be careful walking through the forest and to stay on the main road. But Little Red Riding Hood falls right into the wolf’s trap and takes the shortcut he suggested. Don't Lower Your Guard. Beyond the wolf’s lie to trick Little Red Riding Hood, there were other clues that should have raised her suspicions. She never mistrusted the road the wolf showed her and she didn’t realize the wolf was pretending to be her Grandmother, even when she commented, "Granny what big ears you have! Granny what big eyes you have! Granny what big teeth you have!" Always remember - "See Something, Say Something!" And finally, the Lumberjack who saved Granny and Little Red Riding Hood is just like the brave BPPD Officers who are here to protect you from criminals every day! #DONTTALKTOSTRANGERS #NEVERTRUSTAWOLFINGRAMMASCLOTHING #HAPPYHALLOWEEN

Today we give recognition and appreciation to police , fire , paramedics , and dispatchers who chose to become public servants and protect their communities; working tirelessly around the clock putting their lives on the line for others. National First Responders Day was established on June 17, 2019 when a resolution was passed by the U.S. Senate to designate October 28 as National First Responders Day. This year on Sept 11, dispatchers received their long overdue r...ecognition officially becoming First Responders!! They are the first ones to respond to a call for help and quickly send resources. Please make sure to thank a first responder today if you see one or are lucky enough to know one!!! #bppd #nationalfirstrespondersday #police #fire #paramedics #911dispatcher #thankafirstresponder

Tonight, Officers from our department are assisting the Orange County Sheriff's Department, CA in the city of Yorba Linda, as the #blueridgefire threatens the residents and homes in the area. We are helping to evacuate neighborhoods and provide security for those evacuated areas, against looters who would take advantage of this horrible situation. We pray for the safety of our brothers and sisters in the fire service and hope they can take control of this blaze quickly. #BPPD #BuenaParkPD #Fire #AssistOtherDepartment #MutualAid #safety #LootersAreNotWelcomeHere
