Bubble Lounge

It's been a long, fun, exasperating, fun, stressful, fun, annoying, fun, fun, fun year. The place hit breakeven after only a year, the bums are considerably fewer, and my neighborhood is a cleaner, mellower place for it. I've lived a few doors up from my little launderette for 30+years, and I've gotten to know a lot of friendly neighbors who've lived here a long time as well. I met my uncle's neighbor from the '70s who still lives in his old building!! The experience has been entirely uplifting and fulfilling!! Happiest of holidays to you all and thank you so very much for your kind words and support!!

Some of you may already be familiar with the once broken-down, taken-over-by-homeless laundromat on Fulton between Masonic and Ashbury. My wife, Zola, and I took over the place in November simply to attempt to rid our (I've lived 6 doors up for the past 30 and my wife for the past 4 years) neighborhood of the undesirable people who were camping in there, smoking, doing drugs, vandalizing, stealing, and basically scaring anyone, especially our respected elderly, who wanted do... their laundry in peace. Well we are finally ready to welcome you all back to a cleaner, brighter, safer, miscreant-free and working place to do your laundry! Only 30% of the dryers and washers were working when we took over and now we're proud to say that 90% are in working order and some new ones are coming soon. I've had to learn how to fix everything using youtube videos and pointers from friends to do the repairs, all while maintaining a full-time and two part-time jobs, so it is still a bit of a work in progress. Even after great expense we've kept the prices ($2.00/wash, $.25/7-minutes dry) the same, although we have two, more modern, ecologically friendly washers coming soon that will cost a bit more to use. The place still isn't paying for itself yet, but the miscreants are gone. People have started to come back little by little and all are very happy about the place. We can keep paying the difference between what it makes and what it costs (rent, PG&E, Water, trash, etc) for a just few more months, but we need your support to help keep our neighborhood safe and clean. It will never and we didn't buy the place to make a lot of money. We (me really, as I had to very much talk my wife into it) bought the place just to clean up the neighborhood.
