We, Brothers United San Diego Firefighters Inc., stand with those who have been peacefully demonstrating across the country over the past week. We are grieving deeply with the family and friends of George Floyd. We also want to acknowledge the countless other victims of police misconduct and brutality like; Aiyanna Jones, Walter Scott, Tamir Rice, Philando Castille, Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Breonna Taylor, Atitiana Jefferson, Botham Jean, and John Crawford III. All of th...ese Black Americans were taken from their families after senseless actions taken by individuals who were sworn to serve and protect The People. These deadly encounters and countless other negative experiences throughout the U.S. Justice System cannot continue to fade into the background. The time to address this issue is now. We are hopeful that this movement brings about the much needed lasting change that this country is crying out for. We hear you loud and clear San Diego, and we commend you for taking a stand against this repeated injustice. As Public Safety professionals, we do not condone acts of violence, setting of fires, or destroying property. We do encourage all to participate in the conversations surrounding these issues with open hearts. We must use our platform as Fire Fighters to advance our society and quality of black lives.
