Brittney's Bark Avenue 02.11.2020

The first vet was pushing really hard for euthanasia. They were rude to me right off the bat and it just got worse once I said I wanted a second opinion. This i...s not like any other experience I have had at this office. The attitude we received last night will probably end our relationship with that facility. It was very unprofessional and I felt like someone was taking out their bad day on us. I was questioned as if I had this dog in my possession and allowed him to get this way. It was not a good feeling at all. It was $844.00 for a couple of hours there when I have had pets admitted overnight with frequent blood draws, in the oxygen chamber etc. for less than that. I felt taken advantage of. Which had never happened there before They never asked me what my budget was with any other pet, and once that number was given it was like they tried to run a tab to reach that. When I asked if we could run tests since he thought it was bone cancer he said well yeah we can run all kinds of tests. So I responded no, a specific test because you think it’s bone cancer. And he said yeah but it would take 5-7 days for results to come back It was all so weird and unlike them. No sense of effort to want a definitive answer. I don’t even see the biopsy listed on the original estimate for that. This vet suspected a wide variety of things such as valley fever, bone cancer, heart failure, among other things. Which could all be true. But with an appetite, bright eyes and alertness I was not comfortable with assuming. I need a confident, patient and respectful doctor to tell me that. Not try to demand euthanasia because of what it looks like. So I asked them to wrap things up so that we would pick him up and pursue a second opinion. With someone so eager for euthanasia, it did not feel safe leaving him there. (It was NOT a money issue. I had the room on a personal credit card, which is what I used to pay up front anyways. It was a concern for the well-being of Dobie) With that being said, Dobie (we haven’t thought of a good name for him yet) is pending a second evaluation. Hopefully with our regular vet, today. He is snuggled up with one of our fosters with pain meds, fluids, small meals, and a safe place to rest. Everything he would have gotten there, except he is with people who will give him more one on one time with love and affection. We have raised around $300.00 and want to thank everyone who has contributed It is very much appreciated We will update when we know more. UPDATE: Riley has found a foster home!! Hi, my name is Riley. I am a 10-month-old Australian Cattle dog mix. I am a chill and laid back kind of girl. I love to ...take naps and can be a bit lazy, but when it comes time to play and work, I am ready to go. I would love to find a home with some livestock that I can herd. I prefer not be be on a leash as I am great at healing, but the shelter staff assured me a leash will keep me safe. The shelter staff thinks it’s funny when I flash them a big smile. After a long day I love to snuggle up and count some cows until I fall asleep. They staff here at the shelter is looking for a foster home for me. Can I come to your house and spend some time with you?? Please contact the Dog Foster team at 661-205-7982 if you want to be my foster parent. ** UPDATE: ALREADY ADOPTED ** Available for Adoption Moana is 4.5lb 5 year old little princess who loves nothing more than being right next to you wherever you ...are. She loves to go for walks, cuddle and play fetch. She has a great little appetite and will even ‘shake’ for a treat. She does great with other dogs who are around her same age. The perfect home for her would be with someone who is able to give her as much attention as she gives to you. She loves people and does not like to be alone. She loves to sit on or near your lap and is a great snuggler at night. Moana does need someone who is willing to take the time to potty train her. She is super smart so she should pick it up pretty quickly. She is a delight and has so much love to give. If you would like to meet and adopt Moana, please go to our website and submit our adoption application www.malteserescuecalifornia.org. She's currently living with her foster family in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. Remember, it’s all about second chances.
