We’re about a week away from launching our newest class - From Words to Images: An Introduction to Illustration with Maddie Edgar Do you have a teenager with an imagination that runs wild? This class is perfect for dreamers just starting on their journey and artists who’d like to pick up some more skills. In this class, students will learn how to use the elements of art and the principal design to create evocative images inspired by the written word including poems, stories, ...or lyrics. Students will learn the fundamentals of illustration by creating 3-5 finished drawings that clearly and creativity illustrate a short story arc; showing a beginning, middle, and end. The focus of the class will be on building drawing skills and visual storytelling techniques while communicating a concept through images. No previous experience necessary. Sign your teen up for this class and more today! https://www.brentwoodart.org/te/intro-to-illustration-teens

"With her sedate, elegant sculptures enjoying increased visibility, Simone Leigh has been chosen to represent the United States at the 2022 edition of the Venice Biennale in Italy, the world’s biggest art festival. Leigh’s Venice Biennale pavilion is set to include new sculptures by the artist, whose work centers Black women and draws on an array of crisscrossing historical strands and references." A belated congratulations to Simone Leigh on this amazing honor! Truly a well-deserved and fitting choice for the Venice Biennale.
