Mochi Donut Day! These are a labor of love. The recipe is authentic mochi but adapted to be gluten free, vegan, and soy free. Puppy Dog Pals Icing Smiles is a charity near and dear to my heart. A couple times a year I receive a call to action and I’m asked to create a cake for a critically ill child. Each time I do this I stop production to be apart of something bigger than myself. It’s not just cake, it’s normalcy in a storm, it’s celebrating being alive, it’s telling a child I honor your battle. Life isn’t simple or easy for these kids but each delivery all I see are smiles. Mochi Donuts I am in the San Francisco area often, I heard there were mochi donuts nearby. I was so excited but the feeling was short lived because they had a list of the most common food allergies as first ingredients. I came home and did more research, most mochi donuts are made with a mix that has all those allergens. But if you made them the old school way they were gluten free! So I took that old recipe and went a step further to make them vegan and soy free too!... Introducing the deep fried gluten free & vegan mochi donut! It’s free of gluten, egg, dairy, soy, peanuts, and dye (if you request natural dye). I’m planning to offer these in sets of six on Sunday mornings. They are best if eaten within 8 hours of frying so they will be made in smaller quantities at first to see how it goes.
