HELLO DEAR BOCCE ENTHUSIASTS! I have been involved with the Bocce Courts at Backesto Park for a long time and have been an advocate for saving our beloved Bocce. At one time, the City wanted to do away with them. But they are historic, thoughtfully made with professional regulation crushed oyster shells, and I remember my father, Henry (Enrico) playing with all the old Italian guys at the courts. That dates back to the 80s! For so many years, I've been promoting the courts ...and even spending money out of pocket to get us on MeetUp. But those days are over, and I'm selling my home on North 12th and moving. So I'm turning it all over to you in the community to keep it going. Miranda Vaughn stepped down recently. But Josh Rogers (see the post) has been a truly active supporter, generous with his time, and will now be an Admin for this page and the courts. It looks like it will be in great hands, with other people from the community also joining our group here. Let Josh know if you'd like to assist with the administrative coordination of this page and the courts. We always can also use some good hands to keep the courts in tip top shape. Jose Posadas also stays active in organizing here and there. I'm grateful for the community support and the joy we've received from keeping the courts going and bringing neighbors together. And IT'S FREE!!! Enjoy, neighbors! I will bring with me only fond memories.

I’d like to introduce you to the new admin of the group; Josh Rogers~ Josh will be joining Dezi as co-admins for the page. I (Miranda Vaughn) will be stepping down. It has been my honor to serve the neighborhood and Bocce community these past ten years. A little about Josh:... Josh lives in the neighborhood and has lived here for 13 years. He’s been playing bocce ball since 1993, has a wealth of experience and is passionate about the game. He belongs to the Vespa club that restored the third bocce court a few years ago (thank you Vespa Club!) Josh is also willing to teach people how to play this fun sunny day sport. Welcome aboard Josh!

Hello, Hope everyone is "wintering" well. I am looking for a new admin (or two) to take over this page, preferably someone who is more active using the Bocce courts and is interested in keeping the page lively with posts. Please let me know if you are interested.

Two courts done, one to go BUT there appears to be a subterranean creature that also wants to play bocce in court #1... not good.

If you live in the Northside or are a former resident we invite you to join us. A complimentary 50th anniversary t-shirt will be given to the first 100 attendees. Also, in the spirit of community volunteerism we need your help to distribute flyers to your neighbors on your street/block. We will have flyers printed within 2 weeks and want to drop them at every door in the Northside neighborhood. With your help we know we can! Reply to this post so we can put you on the volunteer list to pass out flyers to those who do not have access to internet or facebook.

BOCCE COURTS OPEN SATURDAY, SEPT. 19 11 am to 1 pm. FREE DRAWING for a Bocce Ball Set! The Chalk Art Festival is coming to downtown San Jose in Backesto Park, between 13th and 15th Streets and Jackson/Empire on Sept. 19. The Bocce Courts will be open during the festival, so let's play. ... ALSO LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS to keep the courts open during the festival. 11 am to 1 pm is covered, but would like to cover 1 to 3 pm as well. You'll pretty much be a volunteer in name, as all you'll have to do is be there and play, hand out info, and welcome others to play with you. This is also a great opportunity to come see all of the fabulous chalk art. While you're at the Courts, you can sign up for access to play on your own time. So come on down. Who's coming? Look forward to seeing you there.
