Weekly check in from @bicycle_nomad: National Forests are one of my favorite places to escape for an overnight bikecamping trip. There’s nothing quite like waking up in a quiet forest that’s sparkling with morning dew the world is nearly silent, besides the birds and maybe some morning raindrops falling on your tent.... If you’re interested in exploring a wilder side to camping, this is a good first step. Dispersed camping in national forests might become your new favorite way to sleep outside. Free camping, or dispersed camping, is allowed in all national forests, unless noted otherwise. You can find places to camp on the side of main roads, or follow forest access roads (often gravel or dirt) to more remote sites. There’s also the option to ride in for several miles and find a quiet site away from any roads or people. These sites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and cannot be reserved in advance. Every bicycle frame is different. We get it. The Outpost Corner Bag was imagined to utilize the weird space on most frames where the top/down/head tubes meet to allow you to move a few essentials out of your pockets, and onto your bike. A daisy chain is sewn around the outside of the whole bag and the Velcro attachment straps are removable so that you can configure a fit that is custom to your frame. And at just over 200 grams you'll hardly even know it's there. #getoutthere

From @bicycle_nomad : One of my goals in 2021 is doing more overnight bikecamping. I am currently planning a few with my 1980 Raleigh (@raleighbicycles) - Touring 14 outfitted with @blackburndesign Wayside Panniers, which also functions as a backpack. Max (@wutchumacallit) at @goldensaddlecyclery is currently doing a major tune-up on my vintage touring bike to make sure is ready to roll!... The theory behind the overnighter, or the even shorter #S240 (Sub-24 hour Overnighter) is that the best escapes can be quick, and are in your own backyard. Especially when these local adventures are enjoyed on school nights. Note that most Overnighters are specified as either one or two day routes. If referenced with a single day, that means it’s an S24O ride, which aims to get you to a sublime campsite, quickly, leaving a relatively easy ride back in the morning before work. - @bikepackingcom . From @bicycle_nomad The Ohio to Erie Trail is a colossal project, not just for the state of Ohio but also nationally. Dreamed up more than 25 years ago, this route connects the Ohio River in Cincinnati to Lake Erie in Cleveland. Of its planned 326 miles, more than 275 miles of trail are complete. Along the way, users can re-live the history that shaped the state: The Underground Railroad, Amish history, Revolutionary War history, Civil War history, canal history, railroad h...istory The @ohiotoerietrail is a great trail to try out bike touring and travels along a surprisingly scenic route. Logistics are relatively straightforward. The route is well marked and there is no need for long carries of food or water. There are ample opportunities for camping, hotels, bed & breakfast, restaurants, groceries along the way. This is not a wilderness trip. Most camping is at actual campgrounds along or near the trail. However, there are a few spots along the trail where it is allowed to pitch a tent for the night; no services, no charge. There are even a few bike shops right on the trail in case there are equipment needs. The numerous small towns along the route really seem to cater to cyclists. This trail is a gateway to the Great American Rail-Trail (@railstotrails) a nearly 4,000 mile developing trail that will connect the country from Washington, D.C., to Washington state. Gateway trails represent those iconic trails that make possible the Great American Rail-Trail in each of the states it connects.
