Breech Without Borders is thrilled to announce a collaboration with Betty-Anne Daviss for our 2021 California workshops! Betty-Anne will be joining Dr. Davis Ha...yes for our hands-on trainings in San Diego, Los Angeles, Davis, and Sacramento. To register: San Diego: bit.ly/sdbreech Los Angeles: bit.ly/labreech Davis & Sacramento: bit.ly/sacramento2021 All maternity care providers are invited to attend, from obstetricians and residents to midwives, midwifery students, and other birth workers. We want all providers to be prepared, no matter their practice setting. 3-4% of babies are breech at term and 1/4 to 1/3 of all breeches are undiagnosed when labor begins. Our full workshop package includes 18 CEUs, two hours of hands-on simulation training in small groups, one year access to the virtual content, and twice-monthly live sessions with the instructors. About Betty-Anne Daviss: Betty-Anne Daviss is a registered midwife and clinical investigator in Ontario who has attended breech births for several decades. She has attended breeches in hospital as a primary care provider since 2013. She continues to work with the breech team in Frankfurt, for whom she acted as principal author and co-investigator with Ken Johnson on the study comparing upright to dorsal position in vaginal breech (Louwen et al, 2017 in IJOG) and the MRI study demonstrating that diameters of the pelvis change with position (Reitter et al, 2014). Her present investigations demonstrate how to eliminate the need for forceps in vaginal breech and why to relax focus on timelines in labour. She has published a breech manual and establishes breech as a human right in her new book, Birthing Models on the Human Rights Frontier: Speaking Truth to Power.

Did anyone tell you not to sleep with your newborn? Thank goodness for James McKenna, PhD who keeps teaching the importance of close contact with our little o...nes. Quote from an article in the Huff Post: Touching infants changes their breathing, body temperature, growth rate, blood pressure, body temperature, stress levels and growth itself. In other words, the mother’s body is the only environment to which the human infant is adapted. As Dr. Winnecott, the famous child psychologist put it, There is no such thing as a baby, . . there is a baby and someone. ‘ End Quote. See more

Online Course: Shared Decision Making (SDM) Hello everyone, ... In my experience the ability to shift one’s mindset to embrace Shared Decision Making (SDM) during pregnancy and birth is intuitive and a natural thing to do. Mothers do it quite well. It’s also easy to support this mindset by being transparent upfront. My experience has proven that time and time again. Unfortunately, the medical establishment continues to push back against Mothers wanting to be a part of the decision making in their maternity care. Equally so, I continue to speak with Mothers everyday who want their delivering Provider (doctor or midwife) to embrace SDM, yet find it unnerving & anxiety provoking to do so. This recurring need for SDM, prompted me to design an online course to provide Mothers with a communication tool to help them have an empowering experience with their Provider. The goal of the online course is to help Mothers navigate their pregnancy journey in a respectful and empowering way, based on my over 30 years of experience as a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist. This course is designed to EMPOWER Mothers to make safe healthy choices while engaging their Providers. Shared Decision Making encourages a respectful relationship, healthy choices safely, and have an embolden experience in pregnancy and birth. This is also known as empowerment, which will Bring Birth Back into the Hands of Mothers. For additional information about Shared Decision Making, and to enroll online please visit: www.drbootstaylor.com Thank You Brad Bootstaylor, MD Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist P.S.
