Looks like social distancing will be with us for a while. That means 6 ft or more of distance. Therefore, the need for hearing aids to function optimally seems more critical. After all, inverse-square law applies to sound too (if you double the distance, the sound intensity reduces by a factor of 4, and if you move from 1 ft to 6 ft, the sound is 36 times softer to the hearing-impaired.Not to mention the effects of masks. There are ways to help people who are adversely affected.

If you are wearing an over-the-ear hearing aid as well as a mask, please be careful when you are removing the mask. It will cause the hearing aid to fall out and disappear. In the past two weeks, we’ve had two patients who lost their hearing aids. Please check your hearing aid right after removing your mask to make sure it’s still there

DEBUNKING A MYTH: Please be aware that there is currently no evidence that corona virus can get into your body through your ears, and it is unlikely that hearing aids or headphones with the virus on them can pass the infection to you through your ears. But your ear wax may have the virus. So clean your hands after handling hearing aids or any earbuds.

I wrote about the new iPhone update and Widex hearing aids. Widex has tested the compatibility of Apple iOS 13.1.2 with both EVOKE and BEYOND, and the results are positive. Both Widex hearing aids and applications are compatible with the new iOS.* It is recommended to EVOKE and BEYOND wearers with an iPhone or iPad to update to the newest iOS operating system.

Attention to all of my Patients who Have Widex Beyond or Evoke hearing aids and use their iPhone to get calls and to listen to music: Please DO NOT update to iOS 13.0 as Widex has not tested its compatibility yet. I will inform you once that Is done.

Parents: If your child gets a tube for repeated ear infection, you MUST re-test the hearing after 2-4 weeks to Make sure hearing Is returned to normal. Do not assume every thing will be fine.
