SVBC regretfully shares the news of the second death of a person biking on San Jose streets this year. We want to emphasize that it’s not biking itself that is unsafe, it’s the way streets have developed over the last 100 years. The site of this collision, McLaughlin and Tully is one of San Jose’s Vision Zero priority corridors, which means safety improvements are planned for this area. On Saturday March 5 at 12:54 pm, a driver and Mr. Le were heading West on Tully Road. Whe...n the driver attempted to turn right on McLaughlin the driver collided with Mr. To Le, an 81-year-old man, in what is known as a right hook collision. Our condolences go out to Mr. Le’s family and everyone impacted by traffic violence. The fatal collision is the sixth on San Jose city streets in 2021. We will continue to work to make sure streets are safe for everyone, no matter how they get around. See more

We are saddened to share the news that a 76-year-old unidentified man has died from injuries he suffered a month ago in a collision when a driver swerved into a bike lane while trying to pass another vehicle on Blossom Hill Road, according to San Jose police. The collision was reported at 3:14 p.m. on Sept. 4 in the westbound lanes of Blossom Hill Road near the northbound Highway 101 on-ramp. The preliminary investigation said a woman was driving west in a white 2013 Mazda CX...-7 approaching Coyote Road when she tried to move around a vehicle to get to the freeway. Police stated that an investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the Sept. 4 collision can contact traffic Detective Eliseo Malvido at 408-277-4654 or Robert Salonga at 408-920-5002. His death marks the city's 41st traffic death of the year. He was the fifth person killed while bicycling on a city roadway in 2020.
