Global luxury home sale prices ticked up slightly in 2020, as pent-up demand created by coronavirus lockdowns led to buying binges. The average price for a luxury home that sold rose 1.9 percent in 2020, compared to its 1.8 percent increase in 2019, according to Knight Frank’s Prime International Residential Index 100, cited by Mansion Global.

As the cold weather set in and lockdowns continued in many U.S. cities, the market heated up for properties on remote islands in warmer climates. Activity is expected to increase as travel bans are lifted and some buyers are even willing to buy sight unseen to beat the competition, according to Mansion Global.

One of Malibu’s most unique homes has listed for $20 million. The postmodern property, designed by architect Ed Niles, totals just under 4,400 square feet, according to the Wall Street Journal.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA The Viceroy L'Ermitage Beverly Hills luxury hotel will be auctioned off Aug. 19 with minimum bids starting at $104 million in a court-ordered sale arising from a long-running foreign bribery and kleptocracy case involving a Malaysian fugitive financier. Federal prosecutors seized the lavish 116-room hotel, a short walk from Rodeo Drive, four years ago as part of an investigation into the theft of more than $2.5 billion from a Malaysian development fund, 1Malaysia Development Berhad, known as 1MDB, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Luxury goods conglomerate LVMH bought up another Beverly Hills storefront last month. The 6,000-square-foot property at 449-453 N.
