MONDAY UPDATE TALK OF $200/week: The $200 flat benefit would last for two months as states transition to a system that grants unemployed people 70 percent of t...heir wages prior to losing their job, the aides said. There's going to be plenty of news on this during this coming work week. I'd like to discuss some of the parameters that will likely guide the discussion. The $1200 check will be reissued. That's easy. Expect that. My last check took two months longer than other people's but it finally was printed and mailed to my home. Expect a repeat of whatever your experience was on this topic last time. On the enhanced unemployment amount, the Republicans have already caved to the idea that pulling such support would devastate a significantly damaged economy. The idea of replacing 70% of a person's salary is a fair standard often used in Europe to determine the amount a person can live on in the absence of regular income. The issue is that since the Republicans have waited for two months to discuss this, rolling out the administration of such a plan will add additional delays. Many people are already facing eviction and foreclosure as of today, not as of another month or two from now. Further, the overall economic support to the economy that results from those $600 being spent by those not in the top earnings part of the pyramid, makes any lesser amount not spur economic activity to the same level, obviously. The rich save. The poor spend. It's an old adage I find useful in explaining economic concepts. Also, a similar plan will undoubtedly roll out in a more timely manner, since this has already been set up by the various state systems. Time is of the essence. Finally, although the media is talking about 100 days to the election, many states start early voting within six weeks from today. If Trump wants to see his autograph on another letter about how he has sent you a check in the mail to appear before you fill out your ballot, he'll want this solved by the end of the week. Lastly, If a decision is not finalized prior to the Aug 7th recess, there will be no distribution of any aid until after the election. Simple as that.
