Happy Friday to you all! Today we will wrap up our transitional positions series with a demonstration of how to stand up from a kneeling position safely. This one is for any folks with lower extremity pain or general weakness. Assisted Kneel-to-Stand: In a kneeling position (use a pillow for cushion) place both hands on a stable surface such as a chair. Sweep one leg around so your foot flat on the ground, then press against your stable surface to raise your body. Sw...eep your other leg around into a standing position! Let's discuss Shoulder Dislocation! Did you know the shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body? It is also the joint that is most likely to dislocate. A dislocation occurs when there is a separation of the ball and socket in the shoulder. Dislocation can happen during contact sports, falls, or any direct trauma to the shoulder. A dislocation will more than often require the assistance of a health care profession to place the joint back into place. After the joint is rea...ligned a medical doctor will normally direct you to a physical therapist for shoulder rehabilitation. Shoulder dislocations can damage other parts of the shoulder including: the bones, ligaments, cartilage, muscles, and tendons. It is important to seek medical advice if you feel like you have dislocated your shoulder. Symptoms typically include: Pain Inability to move the arm Awkward appearance of the shoulder Physical therapy will help with regaining your range of motion and strength that may have been affected from the injury. Physical therapist will design an individualized exercise program that will help with muscle retraining, range of motion, and strengthening the joint. They will also focus on joint awareness and teaching you how to prevent future dislocations from occurring. See more
