REMINDER: LABOR DAY BEACH CLOSURES The County of Santa Cruz reminds the public that daytime beach closures are in effect throughout Labor Day weekend. Beaches i...n the unincorporated area will be closed beginning Saturday, Sept. 5th at 5 a.m. through Monday, Sept. 7th at 5 p.m. Beach crossings would be permissible to access the ocean for the purposes of activities such as surfing, paddle-boarding, boogie-boarding, swimming, snorkeling and kayaking. Beaches would remain open for public use on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 5-6, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Local jurisdictions have adopted same or similar restrictions. State beaches will also be closed, and the public is advised that several local State Parks have been closed or have restrictions due to the ongoing CZU Lightning Complex fires. With more than 13,000 residents still under evacuation orders, many local hotels and visitor accommodations are still housing evacuees. Proprietors are requested to prioritize local evacuees over visitors whenever possible. With fires still burning throughout northern Santa Cruz County, air quality can also be an issue.
