A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold is perhaps the landmark work of ecology. In lucid, poetic prose--rich in anecdotes, beautiful illustrations, and well-researched hypotheses--Leopold relates the ways in which varied landscapes across the U.S. become themselves. The lesson is both practical and soulful: what we call history is a woefully small part of the world's story, the greater part being that of birds carrying seeds across oceans and continents, migrating grasses, trees falling in the forest with no one to hear them. Leopold calls on us to hear them. A beautiful, breezy, urgently necessary read. #bbbookreviews #beyondgrowth

Today we honor one of L.A.’s most influential poets, Lewis MacAdams for #bbpoetrytuesdays. With Lewis’ passing, Beyond Baroque--along with the literary community at large--lost a dear friend & regional treasure this year. This Friday, October 16, along with the Elysian Valley Arts Collective (EVAC), Beyond Baroque will co-host Reading the River: The Poetry of Lewis MacAdams as a celebration of his life and eco-poetics.
