Hi everyone! Bayberry workers are essential--we must provide care and support every day for people who have developmental disabilities in their homes. As a nonp...rofit, Bayberry is struggling to find masks for staff--we want to ensure their safety coming to and from work. Staff have already stepped up and donated masks and other supplies for themselves and their coworkers--we are so grateful! Now, Bayberry is asking the communities where we provide support (Napa, Lake County, Sonoma, and Solano Counties) if they or someone they know are making washable masks that they can donate. Everything helps--there is no amount too small! Anything would be appreciated! Please let us know if you can help.

Please consider Bayberry as you donate to worthy causes this holiday season. I am proud to work for an organization that supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities live as independently as possible.

Bayberry Welcomes Congressman Thompson as a DSP for a Day Honoring work in support of community living for people with disabilities On August 27, 2019 Bayberry Inc. will welcome Congressman Mike Thompson as he joins our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to learn firsthand about the work they do. The event, titled Direct Support Professional (DSP) for a Day, seeks to raise awareness of the individuals we support and the important workforce who helps them maintain their i...ndependence and quality of life. This is a unique opportunity for Congressman Thompson to connect with constituents who might not otherwise have a chance to share their experiences and concerns with elected officials. Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) also referred to as caregivers, personal assistants and direct care or homecare aides provide a rich mosaic of daily support services for the many Americans with disabilities. DSPs are integral in helping people with disabilities participate in their communities and lead full and independent lives. The work of DSPs is incredibly important for the persons they support, their families, and the community. said Linda Plourde, Bayberry Inc. CEO. DSPs deserve recognition for the significant work they do every day. Funded primarily by Medicaid and focused on people with I/DD, the DSP workforce is one of the fastest-growing professions in the U.S. due to demographic trends such as the increase in autism diagnoses and longer lifespan of people with disabilities. Despite the ever-growing demand for DSPs, this workforce is experiencing a severe workforce crisis with a national average turnover rate of 45 percent. Turnover can be as high as 60 percent in some states. This is affecting the quality of life of people with disabilities, limiting opportunities for them to live like you and me. The work DSPs engage in is highly tailored to the needs and wants of the individual supported. Supports can range from job coaching, assisting with daily tasks such as grocery shopping, or helping a medically fragile person stay in their home instead of being in a segregated, state-run institution. DSP for a Day is an opportunity for elected officials to personally learn about the nuances of this intricate and unsung profession, and its vital role in supporting the independence of people with disabilities. About Bayberry Inc. Bayberry, Inc., founded in 1979, offers services to persons with developmental disabilities at Bayberry House and provides Supported Living Services to persons with developmental disabilities in their own homes in Napa, Sonoma, Solano, and Lake Counties through contracts with North Bay Regional Center and Redwood Coast Regional Center.
