"Two more decades on, the conditions that gave rise to Central America’s conflicts persist, while the promises of postwar peace and democracy have fallen flat. Interventionist U.S. foreign policies wrapped in the rhetoric of stemming migration, waging war on drugs, and stoking development continue to enable militarization, human rights abuses, and displacement. As William I. Robinson details in his feature essay in this issue, the reverberations of the crisis of global capitalism now push the region to the brink of a renewed collapse. And in a world hurtling toward climate catastrophe, Central America is one of the most vulnerable places." https://nacla.org//dispossession-resistance-solidarity-cen

Some of those people, like Maru Mora Villalpando in Washington or the Migrant Justice activists in Vermont they’re fortunate enough to have communities and o...rganizations supporting them, Maremont said. But many of them don’t. They’re alone. And so, as this group has been talking, it’s been really wonderful to see this network of mutual support coming together out of it. #wewontstop #abolishice See more

"Bukele entered office in June 2019 promising that he would turn over documents 'from A to Z' in the case. Since then, however, Bukele has largely reversed his ...stance, part of an increasing authoritarian pattern, as the president has hobbled the Institute for Access to Public Information, limiting declassification of military information and impeding its independence. He has attacked El Faro and other independent media, ignored decisions of the country’s highest court (including in this case), and used the military and police in a dramatic move to occupy and intimidate the country’s legislature when it would not legislate according to his will." content warning: threats/acts of violence, torture, coercion and disappearance of migrants "Patrick, a detainee who has been told he is on the deportation list, said he has not been able to sleep knowing that Ice agents could come for him at any time, and that for him, deportation could well be a death sentence. 'I live in worry because I don’t know what awaits me. I don’t even know what the next day is going to look like, and will I be taken back home,' Patrick (a pseudonym)... told the Guardian in a call from a detention centre. He did not want his name used because of the risk to his surviving family members." ICE is getting more ruthless and this will only increase if we do not fight to #AbolishICE.
