Good wrought iron is galvanized during the welding process to discourage rust production. This is done through a multistep process of caustic cleaning, rinsing and pickling the iron.

The welds from carbon steel welding are so clean and precise that they can withstand the scrutiny of X-ray evaluation. In fact, the weld quality is so good that it is often indistinguishable from an automated TIG (tungsten inert gas) weld.
