Baldwin Park Shelter 07.11.2020

If you ever wonder why the Baldwin Park Shelter and all of the Los Angeles County Shelters are short on staff and provide inadequate care - look at the attached contract they just signed to build a $729.380 fence around Baldwin Park's Building 4. This fence would cost any private individual less than $5,000 to build. Pets suffer and die - while government officials get rich. http://file.lacounty.gov/SDSInter/bos/supdocs/123882.pdf

The Friends of the Baldwin Park Shelter are pleased to announce the forever departure of shelter manager Sheri Koenig - who has been assigned to twiddle her thumbs and spend the rest of her soon to be over employment at the Pat "Google Me" Claerbout memorial desk at DACC headquarters. Goldilocks will never (mis)manage a shelter again!. One hopes that this will lead to a more humane, rescue friendly shelter!

Today the California Supreme Court rejected the appeal of Los Angeles County's Director of Animal "Care" and Control, Marcia Mayeda in the case of DeVitt vs Los Angeles County, the DACC & Marcia Mayeda. This case concerns the wrongful death of jogger Pamela DeVitt on May 13, 2013. It is alleged that Mayeda and the DACC obstructed evidence and forged evidence as they tried to coverup their negligence that caused the death of Ms. DeVitt. Los Angeles County self-insures and i...t is estimated to date they have spent half a million dollars trying to defend the indefensible actions of its animal control agency and its leader. As a result we the taxpayers will lose services as the money that would pay the yearly wages of 10 paramedics, 8 firefighters or 6 Sheriff deputies instead ended up in the pockets of Mayeda & Co's lawyers - who lost for their third consecutive appeal. On September 21st, the DACC will hold its first open town hall in recent memory. Ms. Mayeda likely will not attend but other DACC officials will be there. We invite you to go meet them and ask them questions about Mayeda, her $238,000 a year salary, her private taxpayer funded dog park and why Los Angeles County's scandal plagued Animal Control Agency should not be run by someone who hasn't ordered the euthanization of over 600,000 pets during her tenure as head of the DACC.

Baldwin Park has a tremendous selection of cats and kittens for adoption at all times due to the shelter serving several economically and educationally challenged communities where spay/neuter laws often do not apply to cats. During kitten season it is not unusual for the shelter to receive seventy kittens in a day and the shelter has only 100 cat kennels and the shelter's feline kill rate is over 75 percent. The pictures contained in this album are only a small representation of the amazing cats available for adoption at the Baldwin Park 'Shelter.' Please check the website www.animalcare.lacounty.gov to see the full list of adoptable cats.
