With Badwater Salton Sea coming up on November 7-8 this year, special thanks to Emily Ryan, six-time BSS finisher, for this amazing article. EVERYONE, pease read it and soak in her sage wisdom! (And if you're not racing this year, this one-of-a-kind event returns next year on May 1-2)! https://www.135miles.org/b/salton-sea-thoughts-on-finishing

Live from Ranchita, mile 50 of Badwater Salton Sea, location of checkpoint 4 and Rancheti the Yeti. The owners of the recently burned down Montezuma Valley Market (at this location) just gave us the following awesome update: "We will be open the weekend of this year's race. We will be having a temporary store, with gu products, soups, sandwiches and drinks. Basically how we were stocked before. See you on the 7th!"... Support the rebuilding and re-opening of the store at this link: https://gofund.me/5d41c8d3

Live from Mile 6.5-6.93 of the BSS route, the location where the support crews will wait for the runners after the start of the race.

City of Oceanside officials were the co-hosts, and they are very supportive, and also San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond attended who is very supportive. A two-minute video about this was produced and all of us in the California Coalition for Endurance Sports ar...Continue reading

It's always an honor and a pleasure when Badwater Race Director Chris Kostman joins Bob Babbitt on his Babbittville podcast. Bob is the co-founder of Competitor Magazine, co-founder of Challenged Athletes Foundation, and one of the most insightful and uplifting voices in the entire endurance sports world. In this episode Chris gives an overview about the wide world of Badwater and then announces the Badwater 267 VR event. Thanks, Bob! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=911r64K33Lk

Badwater 267 VR for Cyclists and Swimmers! We've had several people ask if there is an option to bike or swim Badwater 267 VR, and the answer is YES! Of course, equating three different sports is a very imperfect "science," but we did our best to develop seemingly reasonable numbers. Here are the calculations / requirements: 267 Miles Running... 31 days = average of 8.612 miles per day Average Pace of 8 minutes per mile = 1.07 miles per hour = 1:05 spent each day Average Pace of 10 minutes per mile = 6 miles per hour = 1.43 hours or 1:26 spent each day Average Pace of 12 minutes per mile = 5 miles per hour = 1.72 hours or 1:43 spent each day Average Pace of 15 minutes per mile = 4 miles per hour = 2.15 hours of 2:09 spent each day NOTE: Combined Course Records for Badwater Cape Fear + Badwater Salton Sea + Badwater 135 = 48 Hours or 5.56 miles per hour = 1.55 hours or 1:33 spent each day (This is an average of the men's and women's course records.) 1068 Miles Cycling or 4 x 267 (1 mile running = 4 miles cycling) 31 days = average of 34.45 miles per day Average Pace of 20 MPH = 1.72 hours or 1:43 spent each day Average Pace of 14 MPH = 2.87 hours or 2:52 spent each day 133.5 Miles Swimming or 1/2 x 267 (1 mile of swimming = 2 miles running) 31 days = average of 4.306 miles per day Average Pace of 2 MPH = 2.153 hours or 2:09 spent each day Average Pace of 1.5 MPH = 2.9 hours or 2:54 spent each day The map of the Badwater 267 VR race route is 267 miles long and the participants need to log their miles each day on the website. Then they see themselves moving along the map. With the above, swimmers would credit themselves twice their swimming distance each day, while cyclists would divide by 4, in order to move along the map consistently so that everyone hits 267 miles at the end. We will set up separate divisions for cycling and swimming at RunSignUp so that there is no confusion as to how people are participating. Welcome aboard, Badwater swimmers and Badwater cyclists!

Check out the awesome medal for Badwater 267 VR! Join us for this 31-day, 267-mile epic challenge to start 2021 in a Badwaterly fashion! This new challenge starts January 1, so register now at https://runsignup.com/Race/CA/DeathValley/Badwater267VR All the info is at https://www.badwater.com/event/badwater267vr/... BADWATER 267 VR competitors will virtually and sequentially traverse the routes of all three Badwater races the 51-mile Badwater Cape Fear, the 81-mile Badwater Salton Sea, and the 135-mile Badwater 135 for a total of 267 miles over 31 days. These are the three events which comprise the legendary Badwater Ultra Cup - and now Badwater 267 VR. Due to popular demand, there is also a Spectator Division for those who don't necessarily want to run 267 miles, but they want to spectate the event online, support Badwater, and receive a t-shirt, buff, and sunglasses (but no medal). This event is also a fundraiser for Challenged Athletes Foundation and for Bald Head Island Conservancy, the Official Charities of AdventureCORPS and Badwater. Both of these organizations do amazing work in the world, but they also do mission-critical things to support all three of our "real world" events and our overall mission. Run at your own pace, as often or as long as you want, wherever you live! Or participate as a spectator! Please join us and start your 2021 right! Special thanks to our artist Kevin Fung for the awesome design for this logo and medal!
