BAADS is very sad to report that one of our long-time members has died. Fernanda Castelo was an active sailor in both our keelboat and small boat program where she was a fierce competitor and good friend. She competed in a great many races in different classes and regattas in San Francisco, San Diego, Newport, RI and beyond. She was also the proud skipper of the winning boat for SBYC’s 2018 Red Bra Regatta. Among her many accomplishments both on the water and on land included... starting California Inclusive Sailing. Fernanda was instrumental with BAADS’ involvement with America’s Cup held in San Francisco in 2013. She organized a spirited racing day between Oracle’s top sailors and our own intrepid skippers. Fernanda was also the driving force for the Richmond Yacht Club to install a portable lift so that sailors with mobility disabilities could transfer onto boats. Fernanda had been living in a long-term care facility after her devastating accident on the Stanford campus on January 24, 2019. She died Saturday evening, December 12th. Rest in peace, our friend.

LOOK WHAT THE M/V DILLARD SNAGGED YESTERDAY!! Crewmembers of the M/V Dillard, a San Francisco District emergency response catamaran, hauled away a collapsed sec...tion of the Pier 47 dock in San Francisco yesterday. The crew coordinated with one of the district's small work skiffs, the Willard, to secure the dock section and haul it across the Bay to the #USACE Sausalito-based Base Yard. Kixon Meyer, captain of the M/V Dillard, estimates the massive debris haul weighed at least 30 tons, given the slow pace to complete the roundtrip mission. "We were at two knots all the way back, he said. "That's how heavy it was." See more
John Wallace is ready to sail!
For anyone who is disabled and wants to sail or anyone who wants to volunteer.

Please be sure, if you haven’t already, complete the 2020 Census. There are only 20 days left! Don’t be undercounted, it effects us all! Dear City Partners, Thank you for your partnership with the City and County of San Francisco. As we deal with the impacts of COVID-19 and the social and economic impacts that ensue, it is more important than ever that every San Franciscan is counted in the Census. ... To do that, we need your help! There are 20 days left and more than 150,000 households still haven’t participated. A full count of San Francisco means more jobs for our residents and more funding for the projects and programs we know are critical to San Francisco’s economic recovery. You can help by first completing the 2020 Census at my2020census.gov and then getting this critical information out to all of your employees, clients, and community partners. Below is a sample message you can text, email, or put out on your social channels. For more information about the Census, please visit sfcounts.org. Thank you for your assistance. If we count everyone, everyone benefits! EMAIL TEXT: Don’t wait to complete the #2020Census. Time is running out. Visit my2020census.gov or call 844-330-2020. It only takes 10 minutes and will help ensure jobs, housing, and opportunities for San Franciscans. Make sure our City gets the federal resources it needs for essential programs and services over the next 10 years. Being counted ensures our fair political representation and more important, confirms that you are here and are part of America. Go to my2020census.gov by September 30th and do the Census. For multilingual community resources and support, go to sfcounts.org Sincerely, Office of the City Administrator
