Today, let's pause and notice just what is; consider using the STOP skill and without rejection of the moment or pushing away any discomfort, allow yourself to ...proceed with self-compassion and gratitude for the capacity to observe and describe what thoughts, emotions and sensations are present. Here's a simple yet effective mindfulness practice: the next time you find yourself drifting from a work or household task, redirect your concentration and awareness to your 5-senses. Acknowledge what you see, hear, smell, taste or feel. Stimulating sensory awareness will both root you in the present moment and provide a calming effect for your mood. Mindfulness isn't about having total peace of mind - it's about noticing when we become distracted and building the "muscle" to redirect our attention to where we want it to go. A solid mindfulness practice will help strengthen the foundation for every other positive change you wish to see in your therapy journey! #certificationmatters #dbtcertification #mindfulmonday

Remember, thoughts are just sensations of the brain. If they aren’t helpful, try to observe and just let them float on by.

While we are challenged with uncertainty, DBT skills can help get you towards accepting what you cannot control, and getting you toward a better quality of life through changing what you can control.

News from Awake DBT! We hope you are all safe, well, and doing a lot of self-care at this time! We, like you, have worked to accommodate and change to a tele-health approach to treatment during these uncertain times. We wanted to let you know we are still providing fabulous, adherent DBT treatment to teens, their families, young adults and adults.... And we are announcing a change to our practice. Renee Sanguinetti has stepped down as co-leader of Awake DBT. She remains a collaborating partner and has a private practice that will focus solely on providing Stage 4 of DBT treatment. The rest of our amazing team, will be co-creating and co-leading together. If you have any questions at all about Awake DBT or our program, feel free to contact Yvette Duarte at [email protected]. To reach Renee, email her at [email protected]. As always, our intake line is 408-479-4632.
