This pic by Rebecca of Lake C shows just what these hungry Glossy-black Cockatoos were seeking. Their favorite food Casuarina seeds. More of Bec and Sandys amazing photos here. https://www.facebook.com/lakecargelligobirds/
These beautiful threatened Glossy-black Cockatoos were spotted by Rebecca of Lake Cargelligo Birds foraging for their favorite food, Casuarina seeds. A native tree to Australia, Casuarina looks a bit like North American pine trees and is their primary food. Of course that makes them very vulnerable and fires and tree-cutting can wreak havoc with their food supply. More photos here: https://www.facebook.com/lakecargelligobirds/
This is one species that many of us just can't get enough of. As mentioned previously simply a yard bird for Rebecca and Sandy in Lake Cargelligo Australia. and WHAT a yard bird it is! More of their photos here. https://www.facebook.com/lakecargelligobirds/
Remember in Major Mitchells Cockatoos you can sex them by eye color. Here the male at Lake Cargelligo Aus is demanding his turn at the favorite chew tree. His female companion waits casually by for her turn. He is a bit of a grump when it comes to this tree and gets bossy and pushes her away when he wants a turn. Can you imagine what it's like during this complicated period of time to be able to just walk to see several different species of parrots including these in your yard! Such is the life of Bec and Sandy of https://www.facebook.com/lakecargelligobirds/
Punk Parrots? These are beautiful Blue Bonnet Parrots. Yard birds for friend Rebecca and Sandy in Lake Cargelligo Australia. More of their photos here. https://www.facebook.com/lakecargelligobirds/
It's well documented that some of the big Australian cockatoos love some meat in their diet. For example Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoos chew into trees to extract grubs. Cockatoo lover Bec at Lake Cargelligo recently observed Majors taking turns and spending a lot of time chewing at a specific spot. Anyone have any input as to if they might be extracting larvae. They return to this spot on different days to work the tree. Remember this is a yard bird for Bec and Sandy in Australia! https://www.facebook.com/lakecargelligobirds/
It's one of those periods that I dream of spending time with beautiful little birds like these. I have yet to get my fill of Turquoise parrots in the wild. Something about these gentle little colorful birds that to me just invites me to want to indulge more and more time with them. These were filmed near Glenrowan in VIC Australia
Circa 1983. Hitchhiking/Traveling in Cape Tribulation in Queensland. Filming Australian birds for the first time in my life and joining with Aussie friends on a night-lighting excursion to "look for things". This beautiful scrub python was found only a few meters down the path from our accommodation at the Youth Hostel. It was later released none the worse for wear. Australia - the land of adventure!
Cockatiel owners can easily verify that their birds are often very attached to them and loving intelligent pets. For a Cockatiel having it's adopted "flock mates" nearby is everything. One of the joys for me is leading people to see their beloved pets in their natural habitat in AUSTRALIA! Check out our 2020 Parrot Tour of Australia. www.aviandiscoverytours.com We will be visiting this exact Cockatiel hotspot at Lake Cargelligo in New South Wales. Thanks to Bec and Sandy for this lovely photo taken on their farm. More of their lovely photos can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/lakecargelligobirds/
Did you know that of the aproximately 800 species of birds in Australia that only a comparative handful is shared with North America and other areas? Naturally when we are hunting for stellar views of gorgeous parrots it's easy to be distracted by so many other interesting birds! This is a blue-faced Honeyeater in Pine Creek, Northern Territory. www.aviandiscoverytours.com
On our 2019 Parrot Tour we just had to take time out from watching our super colorful and charismatic subjects to soak in the beauty of these ancient aboriginal rock paintings! We will be planning on visiting this spot in Kakadu again in Oct! www.aviandiscoverytours.com
Not just parrots! We search for other birds as well. Video clip from Mark Eatwell.
