Over-The-Counter Nightguards A lot of questions we receive when we recommend a nightguard or sleep apnea appliance to our patients is whether they can buy OTC appliance as opposed to the more expensive customized appliance from a dental office. We agree, they look the same but the cost difference is night and day. ... Most of the time the OTC appliances do work well, but in some situations we see devastating effects such as this example presented above. A patient who used to grind their teeth quite severely got an OTC appliance which over a few months lead to a change in the way he bites. Now he is only able to bite on his back tooth (green arrows) while his other teeth stay open. Now we are faced with a challenge to fix his bite back to a normal one where he can close down on all his teeth. Jaw Clenching/Teeth Grinding It has been well-established that stress, fear and other emotions can increase activity in the amygdala, the part of the brain that regulates emotions, causing responses such as jaw clenching/teeth grinding. Although not directly correlated, jaw clenching/teeth grinding can be a response to stress and we have certainly noticed that it has become more prevalent during the pandemic this year. Depending on what the cause is, there are many ways we can control the consequences of jaw clenching/teeth grinding. 2 Years. It definitely takes a village. A start-up dental office in Los Angeles was a concept many advised me against when I finally decided to leave the comfortable associateship life and execute my vision of MY dental office. Especially grateful to the specialist doctors we work with that welcomed us to the community; @dr.rana.shahi @dr.pejparsa @pereaendo @estherfeldmandmd @la__coms; we are blessed to be working with THE best specialists in our area, thank you for taking great care of our patients. Our patients, we started with zero but our family has grown. 2 years, we’ve met so many wonderful people and their friends, and their families who are now part of the Avenue Dental family. We are grateful for the trust and we hope we can be of service to you for many many many years to come. Last but not least, our TEAM. We do not take hiring lightly. Avenue Dental would not be what it is today without the daily hard work of our amazing team. I left the office this Monday afternoon with a full heart. I am thankful for my village. Avenue Dental Invisalign Crowding of teeth is one of the most common issues we see. Crowding causes malocclusion, where your teeth do not fit together properly, and consequently we often see unwanted wear on the teeth in the pattern of the crowding. Here is a very good example of a this common phenomenon. In the next photo, you can see that even after the teeth have become straight, the wear on the teeth remain. We finish our cases with Post-Invisalign Finishes to complete ...the look. In this particular case, we did the following: Icon Treatment to remove white spots in a minimally invasive manner Tooth colored composite to straighten out uneven tooth levels Enameloplasty to shape uneven tooth levels The final outcome is not perfect, and there are black triangles, and many other treatment options are possible outside of Invisalign, such as porcelain veneers. However, in this case, the patient is only 21 years old and we decided on the least invasive treatment option to preserve his natural dentition.
