Avanti is starting a #wcw series, and it only felt fitting to begin with the woman who started it all, Joann Huebner. Joann started her career in retail in 1977, after her husband Jay (who started his career in 1974) brought her out to California from their hometowns in Michigan for a big promotion. As story goes, Jay brought Joann into the company, and a month later Joann became his boss. #girlpower ... In her retail career, Joann has helped over TWENTY stores to thrive. Again #girlpower. Avanti was born in 1992, and quickly became Joann’s favorite store - and pride and joy. It has been a staple in the heart of downtown SLO for almost three decades, and has always been proudly family owned and operated (plus a little help from our favorite Cal Poly and Cuesta girls). Fun fact: Avanti is now being taken over by Joann’s daughter, Kristin Huebner Walker. For those of you original shoppers and followers, you will remember Kristin walking around the store as a little girl, playing with her basket of toys she kept on the floor, or helping with sales. Back in those days, Kristin could never pick a favorite item in the store when asked to choose but I love them ALLLL!, and had a winning sassy sales tactic, so are you gonna buy it or not?
