As we approach Thanksgiving 2020, may we absorb the things we can be thankful for and reach out to those who need our support. If you - or someone you love- are in need of support, don't hesitate to get help.
This November 2020, we express our deepest gratitude to the ones who care about those who suffer and show their caring through their actions. Whether you are a healthcare worker, a teacher, a parent, a child - whoever you are - thank you for making our world a better place.

Today is International Stress Awareness Day. Stress affects everyone. It is the body’s response to demands, challenges, and traumatic events. Small amounts of stress are normal and pass quickly, but long-term stress can cause emotional and physical harm. This day is the perfect time to examine the stressors in one’s life and find ways to reduce or eliminate that stress. If you feel you need help managing the stress in your life, don’t hesitate to reach out to your local resource agencies. https://www.aurorasantarosa.com/mental-health-resources

Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020 Hello Everyone: According to the PGE Power outage map, Aurora Santa Rosa Hospital is not scheduled to be impacted by the planned power outage.... Even if we were impacted by any type of power outage we have a back up generator that would give us power in most areas of the hospital for 72 hours. Take care and stay safe! Susan Rose, CEO
Good night everyone. May your evening be peaceful. Tomorrow, Monday morning, Aurora Santa Rosa will begin admissions again. Take good care. Susan Rose
Hello to all Aurora Santa Rosa Staff! Here is the Saturday report - The hospital is open with three units at this time and we continue to discharge patients as appropriate. Admissions are still closed until further notice and I expect to get down to 30 patients today with two adult units and one adolescent unit. I did receive a notification from Nixle today at 10:28 ... The National Weather Service has issued a RED FLAG WARNING for the North Bay Area, including all of Santa Rosa from 5 AM Sunday (8/23) to 5 PM Monday (8/24) due to dry lightning and gusty erratic outflow winds over existing wildfires. Unit 100 is open for your use as needed. You don’t have to ask for permission, just put a note on the door so that other staff know the room is in use. And if all of those rooms are busy, please start using 300. I know this is unusual but tough times require flexibility and we need to take care of each other. We have four passenger vans out in front of the hospital along with the U-Haul. The Fire Evacuation Checklist has been posted and communicated to all units. Thank you Grant for your input! Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. A Strike Team has been created to travel with the patients to ensure those patients will be taken care of once we reach our destination. Thank you to those of you who have volunteered to travel! And most of the list was created within 1 hour of the request!! If there are any therapists willing to take the trip, please let Stephanie know. Continuing therapy for our patients would be meaningful especially during this stressful time. Huge thanks to those of you who have provided your name and cell phone so that I can reach out for support at any time as needed. The doctors have volunteered to be available as needed. Leadership is on-call and ready to respond within 15 minutes. I’m still here and on-call until further notice. Thank you and please be safe. Susan
Dear ASR Staff, If you’re being evacuated from your home and have no place to stay right now, Unit 100 is available. This is what we’ve done for the past two fires and I want you to know it’s an option in case of an emergency. I might see you there soon! Just in case Sonoma County is evacuated as it was in 2019, please make sure your supervisor has your current contact information. Leadership will communicate to their individual team members via email and text. Text will... be difficult with nursing due to the size. Please remember that text and emails were delayed during the last fire. I will send regular correspondence to you via email but this year we need to rely on social media as a back-up. In 2019, I heard the lack of communication was a concern. The context will be high level because it is social media but this will hopefully let you know what is happening in real time and who to contact directly in case you do not have your supervisor’s number. I know the front desk was overwhelmed with phone calls in 2019 so I’m hoping this additional communication will help. Please let me know if you have any other ideas around communication. I’ve now been through two fires with ASR, our first in 2017 and the second in 2019. During both fires, I put an air mattress in my office to ensure leadership was on-site 24/7 until evacuation orders were lifted and the hospital was safe. I’m sorry the fire season is coming two months earlier this year and the stressful impact this puts on all of us. Best, Susan
This morning, Susan Rose, CEO of the Northern California Behavioral Health System, joined the North Bay Business Journal-hosted virtual Healthcare Conference and the Sonoma/Marin County CEO panel on the topic of hospital response to the pandemic. Susan represents the only free-standing psychiatric hospital in the North Bay, Aurora Santa Rosa, as well as Sacramento Behavioral Health Hospital - opening to the public this Fall. Important take-aways from the conference: -- Disa...ster preparedness in Sonoma County is in place due to the wild fires. It has been modified for Covid prevention and is running smoothly at all hospitals. --Hospital collaboration is critical and CEOs are committed to helping facilities as they can. --Prevention of the spread of infectious diseases are a routine part of hospital training and practice. --The treatment of mental illness is very different from medical illness. Patients and staff often work together in group settings. The space at Aurora has been optimized for safe group meetings and meals. --Telehealth and other video technologies are in use to help groups function safely and effectively, as well as allow psychiatrists and MDs to treat more patients from a distance.
