Our AUHSD Choir students and teachers have been working hard on a districtwide Virtual Choir to share both their love of music and their thoughts and feelings i...n this difficult time. Anaheim Choir Director Jeffrey Derus composed a piece specifically for the group and Matthew Ballesteros, a professional musician based in Anaheim, composed the lyrics for our students. Thank you to Jeff and Matthew! It is a beautiful message of hopefulness in difficult times and says so eloquently what many of us are feeling right now. https://youtu.be/_v8-uCYWLi8 Big thanks also to Veronica Kelii, Sycamore JHS Choir Director for her work in bringing the idea to reality by collaborating with the district choral music teachers and a professional video production company. This "performance is a reminder that the Arts can connect people more deeply to the world and open them to new ways of seeing, creating the foundation to forge social bonds and community cohesion. We have an amazing community of vocal music teachers and students in AUHSD and they build those social bonds and cohesion every single day. Thank you for your time, talents, and investment in the students of the AUHSD! Here are the lyrics to Jeff’s beautiful song: Until Tomorrow... Waves of restless wonder are washing over me I try to settle in the stillness but I can hardly breathe Until tomorrow comes when dawn is in our sight The melodies we sing will ring in harmony Through this bitter night I'm dreaming of a hand in mine A whisper in my ear I want to join the dance again Hold those I held so dear Until tomorrow comes When dawn is in our sight The melodies we sing will ring in harmony Through this bitter night A world of voices echo Across borders, land, and sea Until tomorrow comes We sing for strength Sing for hope Sing for peace, for peace Until tomorrow comes When dawn is in our sight The melodies we sing will ring in harmony Through this bitter night Until tomorrow...

Big news for music education during the quarantine! To allow for distance learning and year-end assessments, the big 6 music publishers (Alfred, Barnhouse, Concord Theatricals, Hal Leonard, Warner-Chappell Music, & Warner Entertainment) have temporarily allowed the use of their copyrighted music for educational purposes. These publishers account for about 95% of available educational music. Thanks to NFHS and NAfME for their great work to help make this happen!

AUHSD has been named one of the nation’s Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation. Fewer than 5% of school districts nationwide receive this ...distinction and it recognizes the district’s commitment to music education. Now in its 21st year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. To qualify for the Best Communities designation, District Visual and Performing Arts Director, Brian Belski responded to detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and support for the music programs. Responses were verified and then and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas. Congratulations to our amazing teachers, students, administrators, and parents for earning this tremendous honor! #auhsdvapa #musiceducation #nammfoundation #AUHSDUnlimitedYou
