Here is a powerful video that addresses the Attic's "Look Back - Talk Back" with our production of A PIECE OF MY HEART. Take an amazing journey behind the scenes with this outstanding cast as they discuss the incredibly written show, the emotions of their performance, and how it relates today! Sit back and enjoy - and remember. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL9xi-izBL8

Come say goodbye to the last of the items inside the ATTIC. All funds from the sale go toward our future date of opening up ATTIC 2.0

Dear Attic supporters, fans, and friends, By now, most of you have heard the Attic has become a victim to the Pandemic! Thank you all so much for the amazing supportive and heartfelt responses! Our landlord has decided ( understandably) that they cannot continue to let us stay rent-free while they make mortgage payments for as long as a year. So it's time for us to lower the final curtain on the Attic. The Attic has been a great place for our actors, our staff, our fans, and ...our community for 10 years. The building we have come to know as the Attic Community Theatre will be gone. BUT... our theatre organization, JD Theatricals, can survive this. Our board is amazing, our directors are fantastic, and our many actors who have graced us with their performances still rock! So our new game plan is to collect our theatre essentials - store them - go dormant until we can all gather again. THEN... WE WILL raise the curtain on a new space (possibly a better space). We are confident that: If we build it, you will come! LOL So here is how you can help. We are moving out by the end of July. We are hosting a Titanic Rummage Sale on July 18 & 19. We would love the help of any volunteers that are comfortable and available to help. Covid safety is of up-most importance and we will ask everyone to wear masks, social distance as much as possible, and we will stagger our volunteers to keep the numbers manageable. If you are interested, we could use help in the following areas; Packing (boxing, folding, dusting, cleaning, etc) Moving, Arranging and pricing theater sale items the weekend of July 11 & 12 Getting the word out about our Titanic Rummage Sale July 18 & 19th Helping with the actual sale (taking $, crowd control for entering, answering questions for customers) Taking loads for donations to donations sites July 24th. Help get the word out! Spread the word! Please reach out if you feel you can help in any of these areas. It anyone has access or contacts with a business that would be interested in letting us store some items during the waiting period until we can re-open safely -- we would love to pursue those possibilities. If you are interested in helping, please send us an email at: [email protected] Thanks again for your amazing support and we all look forward to once again sitting back in the most comfortable seats in all of Orange County together!!! (and yes they are going with us) For those that loved the show TITANIC last fall - we close with the first verse of the song: We’ll Meet Tomorrow. Take Care and stay safe! We’ll meet tomorrow We will find a path And reach tomorrow. Past this day of wrath We’ll be together once again Cling to your hope and prayers till then... Your humble announcer and brownie maker, :-) Jim Huffman JD Theatricals @ the Attic Community Theatre [email protected]

Dear Friends, Urgent request; Can you help? Over the last several months I have been contacted by many of our patrons, actors, and staff wanting to know: 1) What is happening with the Attic? 2) How can I help?... Now is the time The Attic Community Theater needs your help. It will take less than 5 minutes of your time (and even better, it won't cost you anything). Background information: As I am sure all of you are aware, the state is still not allowing live theatre to open, and when it does it will be at reduced capacity. Our landlords are running out of patience and are requesting partial back rent payment and full rent beginning on August 1st. Even in the best case scenario, we will not be able to financially meet that demand for months, or even at all during the next year. I have refrained from accepting any financial help until we knew more from our landlords. HERE'S GOOD NEWS (and this is where you come in): The State Senate has a bill (AB 939) coming up for vote soon that would protect small businesses (Live theater being one) from being shut down for an inability to meet rent. If this bill passes it prevents landlords from evicting non-profits and small businesses that are closed because of Covid-19. It also encourages renegotiation of leases and gives businesses up to 1 year to repay back expenses (without late fees) once the state reopens. Here is what you can do - but we need to do it in the next 2 days before the vote in Sacramento! Call your local Assembly Representative and State Senator. You can find them here: http://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov All you have to say is "My name is ___________ in your district. I and I'm urging you to help save and support our local community theaters by voting yes on SB 939 and other nonprofits who rent facilities." Thank you again for your speedy advocacy. Join us in protecting live theatre! Sincerely, Jim Huffman JD Theatricals @ The Attic Community Theatre OCACT.com 714-662-2525 https://attictheater.weebly.com See more

Dear Attic Family (guests, casts, & Staff), As we all know, life for most of us in California came to an abrupt pause in March. Like most responsible businesses we halted all operations and took our guidance from the California health Dept and Governor. The Attic was about to launch our youth performance of Disney's MOANA followed by Mel Brooks THE PRODUCERS. Both shows were in production and we went from thinking it would be a few days... to a few weeks.... to over 2 months ...now. Like so many of the theaters across the country we are faced with a dire situation that could potentially keep theatre closed for the rest of 2020. Based on the Governors 4 phase plan, and using the ever updating science over the past few months of this pandemic -- the Attic Community Theatre doesn't realistically see any way for theatre to pick back up again until sometime in 2021. There are lots of reasons but our cast, staff, and guests safety is the #1 reason. Without a vaccine or treatment likely until the end of the year or beyond we have decided to go dormant until we can safely start again. So what does this mean to the survival of the Attic? We have been in talks with our landlord. They are mulling over what they can do and what the are willing to do. The plain truth is we are at their mercy. With absolutely no income or possibility of income - we cannot continue the lease on our theatre. So as we wait to find out the patience and benevolence of our landlords we are formulating a plan B. If our landlord decides he cannot give free rent to a theatre that cannot by mandate open - we will work with friends, other businesses, and our own resources to stockpile anything of value (costumes, lights, seats, and of course brownie mix) until this pandemic has passed. At that time we would like to think we could either 1) move back in if still unoccupied or 2) emerge in a new facility where theatre can once again bloom. During this wait we appreciate all of the well wishes, prayers, and positive vibes so many of you have sent. We will try and keep a presence on FB & update news on our website. Thank you for the fantastic memories you have all afforded the Attic over these past 10 years. The relationships I have forged with our guests, casts, and staff have truly been life changing. Until we can all "sit back in the most comfortable seats in all of Orange County" together.... keep positive, keep healthy, and keep safe. Humbly and Sincerely, Jim Huffman President of JD Theatricals at the Attic Community Theater www.OCACT.com www.facebook.com/OCACT [email protected]

Here is how you can support the ATTIC during these trying times! If you love the ATTIC.... show some love by buying an Attic T-shirt (for the price of a ticket) and the proceeds go to the ATTIC! Lets hope this promotion goes viral (too soon?). Thanks to Mike Woolbright for setting this up! https://hereforgoodca.com/produ/the-attic-community-theatre

There are several "elder care" facilities that have reached out looking for help suppling their care workers with masks during the extremely challenging time. So... I thought I would share with the theatre community/costumers/craft skilled people and see if anyone would be available to help? I'm sure the Attic could come up with some fabric (if you don't have any). If you can sew... and have a little free time on your hands (not trying to be funny...OK, maybe a little bit) then let us know if you would be willing to join with the ATTIC in making masks for our locals care facilities. Here is a Youtube video that shows how, pattern, materials, etc. https://www.google.com/search

Attic Junior Families -- these are unprecedented times for all of us. It is especially difficult for everyone involved in theatre to separate and distance themselves. Everything we do has been predicated on being together. On that thought, please take the CDC's guidelines seriously and resist thinking its OK to get together or let your kids get together with others over the next several weeks! Its not safe, its not OK, and its not fair to anyone your in your family, friend...s, or strangers that inadvertently come into contact. Even if you are tested and don't have it.... that only means you didn't have it when our were tested.... it doesn't man you wont get it or have since gotten it. There are now multiple cases of Community Spread by people showing no symptoms at all. Infections are growing at 30% per day! Projections show that if we don't immediately stay apart as many as 60% of the USA population could get the virus. Remember, the people in the highest risk category are infants, elderly, diabetics, immune suppressed, asthmatics, cancer patients & survivors, and those with underlying or repetitive health problems. This list includes a staggering number of people that we all know (and many that you don't know about). Weeks from now I hope we can all celebrate better times. Let's do all we can to make sure that "all" means "all". Its will be worth the wait!
