Thank you Marsha P Johnson for your leadership that has help build the strong confident LGBTQ+ community that it is today. Marsha P. Johnson was a Black transgender woman and activist most known for her involvement with the Stonewall Inn riots a 1969 uprising against police brutality led by New York City's LGBTQ community. At the time, it was illegal to serve openly LGBTQ people alcohol or for them to dance with one another. Raids at bars occurred regularly. In the summer o...f 1969, police officers clashed with patrons at Manhattan's Stonewall Inn but they fought back, leading to days of demonstrations that kicked off the LGBTQ movement as we know it today. Johnson went on to become a prominent voice in the fight for LGBTQ equality and was an activist during the 1980s AIDS epidemic. Johnson was a founding member of the Gay Liberation Front and co-founded the radical activist group Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (S.T.A.R.), alongside close friend Sylvia Rivera. Johnson was also a popular figure in New York City's gay and art scene, modeling for Andy Warhol, and performing onstage with the drag performance troupe Hot Peaches.Johnson was known as the "mayor of Christopher Street" . #marshapjohnson #lgbtq #lgbtq #lgbt #atrium916 #blackhistory #blackhistoryfacts #blacklivesmatter #blacktranslivesmatter #blacktranswomen #kindness #kindnessmatters #teachlove #omniconsiderate #omniconsideration #sacramento #sanfrancisco #newyork #newyorkcity

Say goodbye to the Year of the Rat and hello to the Year of the Ox. Friday marks the start of Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year. It is a chance to start fresh, see loved ones and share in the hope of good things to come. In China, the festival lasts 15 days, starting with a feast the night of New Year's Eve and ending this year with the Spring Lantern Festival on Feb. 26 ... In addition to cleaning one's home and adorning it with red banners, artwork and flowers, a priority in preparing for the holiday is making meals. . Though the occasion is meant to be spent with family and friends, the coronavirus pandemic means that celebrations around the world from the United States to Britain to China will look different this year for the 1.5 billion people who observe the occasion. Since the beginning of the pandemic Asian American communities have been the target of and on guard for hate. So this Valentines weekend show live and support your local Asian store, or business service and help uplift our wonderfully diverse community. Find a spot that has amazing dumplings and if you know of a place that has great vegan dumplings- let us know in the comments below. Happy New Year! . . #chinesenewyear #lunarnewyear #yearofcolour #support #teachlove #kindnessmatters #strength in diversity #dunplingisland @sacasiancc

Oh how pivotal this year has been. This is a photo from our last day working together, as part of the sacramento city partnership to build Sacramento.Shop None of it could've been done without our stupendous team, members, and community. We built #SacramentoShop from the former Atrium online shop created in response to our city's need for masks.... We had a vision for an economy capable of sustainable creation made by local artrepreneurs and followed our gut instincts to see it through. To our Shop Creatives, thank you so very much for entrusting us with your work. We promise to continue hustling hard for you. To our Shop Customers, your support uplifts the Sacramento creative economy and reminds us of our purpose in this work. 10000% invaluable, priceless, impactful. Happy New Year eve friends. As lovers of upcycled art and goods, we thought we'd share a bit of food for thought. How can you create something new from something used? . The idea is to collect as many of these signs as possible and make them available to artists, art teachers and students, crafters, hobbyists, and anyone who can put them to good use so they don’t end up in the landfill. Specifics: Date: Saturday, November 7, 2020 Location: Habitat for Humanity Restore, 819 North Tenth Street, Sacramento Times: Sign Drop Off 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Sign Pick Up 1:00 pm to 4:30 Learn more about the pictured piece below! Repost from @murmurestreet: "We completed Dung Beetle last week for@pdvstreetartwith@spacejunkbayonne This work questions the importance of waste recycling, and the tendency of developed countries to make great efforts to send the problem away from them. It questions the voluntary blindness of our societies, casting our problems away and expecting some sort of natural order to restore balance in the ecosystem. This mural was entirely painted with acrylic and brushes, with the goal of being very realistic from afar, and as you come closer to see the brushes strokes and the colorwork. Also, this wall is unique in a way as it is a traditional playground for Basque pelota and we wanted to keep as much as possible the natural beauty of it and play with it instead of totally covering it up to preserve this cultural heritage. . #atrium916 #upcycle #supportsustainableliving #yardsignstoart #yardsigns #dungbeetle #beetle #sacramento #sacramentoart @ #sacramentoartist #murmurestreet #pdvstreetart #streetart #urbanart #garbage #france @sacrestore @sachabitat @n_s_a_c_t_i_o_n @gregg_fishman_ @atlas_disposal #dogood #dogoodthings

It’s Halloween our COO’s @sactechmom favorite time. This is her biggest production event of the year and She gets to get crafty with her outfits. This year she made her hat and had Atrium resident members @saccostumers create a matching mask. Tonight at the Atrium . SEBRIDGES has their soft opening and Day of the Dead art show find out more from @sackip108 . Known in Spanish as 'El Día de los Muertos', this unofficial but widely observed holiday is celebrated on November 2nd... each year, primarily in the Central and Southern regions of Mexico. It is a holiday that focuses on remembering family members and friends who have passed away. Traditions of the Day of the Dead Every year, on November 1st (All Saints Day) and November 2nd(All Souls Day), something unique takes place in many areas of Mexico: Day of the Dead festivities. While it's strange for most of us to accept the fact that "death" and "festivities" can go hand-in-hand, for most Mexicans, the two are intricately entwined. This all stems from the ancient indigenous peoples of Mexico (Purepecha, Nahua, Totonac and Otomí) who believed that the souls of the dead return each year to visit with their living relatives - to eat, drink and be merry. Just like they did when they were living .Happy Halloween . #sacramentoartist #sacart #sacramentoart #sacramentomaker #sacramento #halloween #halloweencostume #octopus #steampunk #steampunkfashion #steampunkcostume #atrium916 #dayofthedead #oldsacramento #eventsinsacramento #eldiadelosmuertos #diadelosmuertos
