So what is neuropathy? Also referred to as peripheral neuropathy, this is a condition where the nerves are damaged and don't work as well as they used to. This starts when the nerves in the hands and the feet are no longer able to send the signals they would normally send and the result can be numbness, tingling, or burning sensations, usually starting in the tips of the fingers and the toes and spreading up the hands and the feet. The most common cause of neuropathy is high ...blood sugar levels caused by diabetes. In a diabetic patient, when their blood sugar levels are high enough, the excess sugar actually enters the nerves and damages them making it hard for them to send signals the way they used to.
