This is a very interesting issue in CA. MADD is now in support of Prop 22, (to keep ride-share workers as independent contractors.) The logic it seems is that if they are re-classified as employees, costs to operate will go up drastically (Uber and Lyft are not going to reduce their profits to pay the drivers lol), which will immediately get passed on to consumers, who will be less likely to use the service, and as a result more likely to drive drunk. I don't have the stats but I generally feel that drunk driving in Los Angeles has plummeted as a result of Uber and Lyft appearing. Taxis are a joke in suburban-sprawl cities so these services are at this point essential. In any case, interested to find out what will happen. What do you think?
