Can anyone else relate to this owl who got caught in the rain? Even they have to deal with the occasional "bad hair day."

The hooded mergansers don’t seem to mind the churned up pond water from the recent storm.

San Diego Audubon's Conservation Chair, Jim Peugh, was recently featured on CBS8 informing us that 'spring is not the time to trim your trees.' https://www.cbs8.com//509-3691125e-5195-4905-a7d9-c789a5cb "This is the time of year when birds are looking to build nests to lay their eggs and raise a family. It's also when trees are sprout new growth making it harder to spot the birds," Jim states.... "The best time to trim trees for birds and the health of your trees is late fall through early winter. this is the time of year when trees go into a dormant stage and handle trimming much better and birds are not looking to nest."

It’s amazing how well poison oak can mimic coast live oak. In this photo, poison oak can be seen with the lighter green, rounded leaves while coast live oak has the darker, spiky leaves.

There’s fungus among us! This week’s weather provided some much needed rain, but left our trails dry enough for a comfortable hike around the preserve. Join us any Saturday this month and you’ll be rewarded with the bountiful blooms of spring.

Our cold-blooded friends are enjoying the increased temperatures, especially this alligator lizard that was found taking a peaceful afternoon nap alongside the trail.

There's fungus among us! Does anyone know what species this beauty is? I found out by using the kid friendly (and big kids at heart) iNaturalist app, called SEEK. This month we are excited to announce the re-opening of the Anstine-Audubon Nature Preserve (October 10th) and the Silverwood Wildlife Sanctuary (October 4th)! This is the time of year that we typically reopen these beautiful spaces to the public after the heat of the summer, and while this year is a bit different, we are happy to return to some level of normalcy. In response to COVID-19 and with an abundance of caution we have initiated an online RSVP requirement to manage a...nd plan for visitors. We also ask that guests adhere to our COVID-19 rules while they are visiting our properties. We appreciate your cooperation in advance, and for helping to keep these opportunities available moving forward. Anstine will be open by RSVP only, on Saturdays from 9 am - 12 pm, October through June.
