Dear parishioners and friends of the Cathedral, Today is Giving Tuesday, a global generosity movement that empowers people to impact their communities by giving to a cause that they believe in. For this Giving Tuesday, what better cause to give to than your church, the Annunciation Cathedral! Your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate $5 or $500- every amount helps and is appreciated, especially this year as many of our hallmark fundraisers were canceled ...due to the pandemic. Please click below to make a contribution online or call us at (415) 864-8000. With your support we are able to continue God's work in a time where His love and mercy are needed more than ever. We thank you! Kind Regards, Fr. Stephen Kyriacou https://annunciation.org/donate

A prayer during times of distress - Lord You know our suffering, and we flee to You, our only hope and refuge, for relief and comfort; trusting in Your infinite love and compassion, that in due time when You know best, You will deliver us from this trouble, and turn our distress into comfort, when we shall rejoice in Your mercy, and exalt and praise Your Holy Name, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Today we mourn the conversion of our mother church, Hagia Sophia, into a mosque. The original name of our Cathedral in San Francisco was also Hagia Sophia as established in 1921. Although this is a sad day in history, let us pray for all Orthodox Christians and in spiritual unity may our Faith be strengthened

The Christian, who is called to a heavenly country, who is only a stranger upon earth, ought not to attach his heart to anything earthly, but should cling to God alone, the Source of life, our resurrection, and the Life eternal. - St. John of Kronstadt

The Annunciation Cathedral stands with Archbishop Elpidophoros - I came here to Brooklyn today in order to stand in solidarity with my fellow sisters and brothers whose rights have been sorely abused. This was a peaceful protest, one without violence of any kind, and I thank all of those involved, because violence begets only more violence. We must speak and speak loudly against the injustice in our country. It is our moral duty and obligation to uphold the sanctity of every... human being. We are facing a pandemic of grave physical illness, but the spiritual illness in our lands runs even deeper and must be healed by actions as well as words. And so, I will continue to stand in the breach together with all those who are committed to preserving peace, justice, and equality for every citizen of goodwill, regardless of the race, religion, gender or ethnic origin. On this day one year ago, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros was elected as new Archbishop of America. We remember his historic visit to our Cathedral on January 26, 2020 fondly. May God grant him strength and many years as he celebrates his 1st Anniversary today!

ATTENTION: Recently, some unscrupulous individual, posing as Father Stephen, sent out emails to some of our parishioners asking for things like gift cards. If you receive or have received such an email, please flag the e-mail as spam and DO NOT respond. It has never been the Annunciation Cathedral's policy to solicit funds, for any reason, through e-mails. For reference, Father Stephen's only valid e-mail address is [email protected] - please do not reply to any ...other address that appears to have originated from him. The kind of scam, unfortunately, is not uncommon in today's world and these same types of phishing scams, as they're known, are affecting many of the Orthodox churches around the country. The Cathedral regrets any inconvenience and wishes you a blessed day. For more information, and for tips on how you can recognize a phishing attempt, please visit: https://www.phishing.org/what-is-phishing

I fervently pray that you all have a safe and blessed Anastasis (Easter). While we find ourselves unable to gather together physically to receive the Light of C...hrist this year, may we use this moment of isolation to still come together and pray as One Body for the health, safety, and recovery of all humanity, as we rejoice in the glorious Resurrection of our Lord. Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral 06.06.2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Please join us online tomorrow at 10:00 AM as we celebrate the Anastasis Service followed by the Divine Liturgy of Pascha. The Anastasis service begins with the giving of the light, the light that comes from the tomb of Christ, who is the Light of the world (John 8:12). The light is then shared until the entire church is bathed in light. The singing of Christos Anesti, Christ is Risen, follows. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ...our being sheltered in place, we are invited, instead, to hold our own candles at home, and to light them when we are given the light by the priest, and to share that light with those who are sheltered in place with us. It is also customary that we take our candle and make the sign of the cross on the doorpost of our homes. We invite you to join us as we proclaim the Resurrection of Christ and the annihilation of death, the victory of life over darkness, the triumph of the human spirit over this pandemic and every obstacle that may befall the human race. To view the live stream and all recorded services visit: https://www.annunciation.org/live-stream If you would like to light a virtual candle for yourself or for a loved one online, your candle will in turn be lit at the Cathedral during the Service by Father Stephen: https://www.annunciation.org/virtual-candle
