Have you heard the exciting news regarding the Martis Valley Trail!? The Placer County Board of Supervisors executed an easement agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to allow a critical segment through Martis Valley. The 10.2-mile paved pathway will connect the Town of Truckee through Martis Valley and Northstar Village and up to the Brockway Summit above Lake Tahoe. The project will ultimately become part of the Resort Triangle Trail, which, when complete, will co...nnect the communities of Kings Beach, Tahoe City, Olympic Valley, Truckee, Martis Valley and Northstar in a great big loop trail. The trail will be paved and separated from highways and roads to maximize the safety and experience of trail users. So how is Auerbach Engineering involved? Back in 1994, Walter Auerbach worked with the Northstar Community Services District (NCSD) team on the initial EIR for the overall project. Then when Auerbach Engineering opened its doors in 1998, they continued their involvement, preparing plans and specifications for construction from the first phases of the project to now. In addition to civil engineering design, AEC provided NCSD the resources necessary to gain the environmental and legal support to allow MVT Phase 1B-2 and MVT 3A to be built on Army Corps lands. To date, MVT Phase 1A and 1B-1 have been built, which extend from the Truckee Town limits to the Army Corps property boundary. And what’s next? AEC has been working with the Placer County Department of Public Works on MVT Phase 3B, which extends from the Army Corps property boundary to the Castle Peak parking lot at Northstar- to be built this year. Big News! After over 20 years of being in business, Auerbach Engineering Corporation is proud to announce the launch of our NEW company logo. As our business has grown and evolved over the years, we felt it was time for a change that reflects our past, captures who we are today and symbolizes what's ahead for AEC. The goal in the rebrand was to create a logo that conveys our experience and professionalism. The new brand is timeless, with an old fashioned font inspired by hand painted signage that represents trustworthiness and experience, yet still has character. The 'A' icon represents a surveyor's tripod, a very common tool used in engineering, the centerline acting as a shadow from the first leg. A big thank you to Visual Theory & LT Marketing!

We love protecting trees! Did you know? Trees that are in a construction area and are designated to remain need protection from the construction activities! . So how do we do this? The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Vegetation Protecting Installation Guidance states that on constructions sites where there is not adequate space to install protective fencing under the drip line of the tree will get wrapped around the tree trunk with protective stakes positioned vertical and e...xtending 10-12 feet above the ground surface to protect the tree from equipment damage. . Want to know more? BMPs (best management practices) are generally a requirement of a State issued permit called SWPPP (storm water pollution prevention plan) and is recommended by the engineer. These then become a playbook for the contractor to implement on behalf of the owner. The proper implementation is enforced by the State water quality control board and mutually enforced by the TRPA. Faces of AEC Friday This Friday we are thrilled to feature our Staff Engineer, Justin Jannone, who has used his passion and knowledge in Civil Engineering all around the country! Upon arriving to Tahoe City, he knew he was home and we are so excited to be a part of his adventure. When we are not keeping him busy with field work, office work or you name it he is busy exploring the outdoors! He is seen here at the top of Tahoe Donner Ski Area after the resorts closed and... the only access uphill was by foot or with skins. This was an after-work snowshoe up, snowboard down situation. I love snowboarding because recreation, especially in a place that was considered uninhabitable 100 years ago, is a mark of human ingenuity. Taking time to participate in the revelry of winter snow sports reminds me I am happy to be alive in these times. Civil Engineering in Lake Tahoe is perfect for Justin because he likes to solve problems and contribute to socially responsible and environmentally sound development, protecting and preserving our natural environment, marrying function and aesthetics to create lasting, safe, and beautiful infrastructure, and improving the quality of life for our community. In the recent past, Justin worked on Resort at Squaw Creek Service Road and Parking Improvements and he is currently working on SWPPP for WLTRWTP and improvement plans for Martis Valley Trail 3F. Justin is a great addition to the team and we are thrilled he not only choose Tahoe, but Auerbach Engineering!

It’s always a bonus when your sampling site is bursting with snow plants! Did you know that after storms in the basin, our engineers sample both upstream and downstream of construction sites? Not only are they testing for turbidity and pH to see if/how the site is impacting stormwater but they are also inspecting sites to monitor Best Management Practices (BMPs). #notabaddayatwork . . . #storm #stormday stormwater #auerbachengineering #aec #didyouknow #laketahoe #snowplants

Our staff loves when their field inspections come with a lake view! Our engineers have been working hard on Tahoe’s amazing west shore performing inspections for Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP’s). During these inspections we monitor the performance of drainage and erosion controls that are installed as part of many different kinds of projects. This is just one of the many ways Auerbach Engineering gets to help take care of this place we love to call home.

It’s AEC Bagel Day! Traditionally on Wednesday mornings we have bagel day where we stock up on delicious goods from our neighbors, Tahoe House Bakery & Gourmet, and everyone takes their turn preparing their bagels and fixins in the office kitchen. We LOVE bagel day! So despite our staff working from home, we continue to observe our office tradition by sharing our bagel, cup of coffee, bowl of fruit or whatever we might choose every Wednesday morning during our virtual... meeting. Auerbach Engineering has had to improvise in many ways since the shutdown, from setting up workstations at home to holding true to some of the office fun, separately but together. Proudly, we are still open for business and continue to serve our clients with our spirits high. Check out a handful of our staff alongside their preferred bagel day tradition >>> Justin: Bagel Day is his favorite day of the week and jumps at the opportunity to celebrate it virtually. Celeste: Rocking her AEC polo while she enjoys her bagel. Christina: Same mug, different workstation. Jessica: Taking bagel day to the next level with bagel earrings, a bagel necklace, and a shirt with bagel and cream cheese. Lydia: Skips the bagels goes for the fruit and keto coffee. | Cindy: Usually reaches for tea w/sugar and now her cat, too! Chris: No bagel here, just delicious egg bites with peri peri sauce and avocado! Sara: Showing off her morning bagel of choice. #aecbagelday

Faces of AEC Friday This Friday we are excited to highlight our Environmental Engineer, Celeste Havener, who is currently working on cataloging and improving the storm drain infrastructure at the Truckee Tahoe Airport. I enjoy working as an engineer at AEC because I get to provide services and amenities for the local community. Plus, I’m constantly learning new skills to address new challenges as they arise. When she’s not hard at work, Celeste enjoys outdoor sports, th...e smell of pine trees, and water related utilities. After college she traveled the globe using her engineering skills for good, and naturally landed in Tahoe when she was ready to settle down. Seen here is Celeste on the top Mt. Whitney on her last day on the John Muir Trail. I love backpacking because I get to push myself physically while being surrounded by the incredible beauty of nature. Plus hiking snacks are the most delicious snacks. Celeste fits right in with the AEC team and we appreciate her hard work!
