Twyla always arrives in style! On this occasion, Marie got to be her chauffeur for the visit. :) We've temporarily stopped accepting new clients but are still finding ourselves busy and booked out by a couple weeks. If you are an active client and have a sick pet, please call us in order to get scheduled. We're so appreciative of our amazing clients that have been supportive during the past year and a half!
The happiest of birthdays to Dr Boyd today! We hope it was a wonderful day! Here he is examining our adorable kitten patient, Twyla :)
We all know the dangers of leaving a pet in a hot (or even warm) car. But summers in the desert can be so harsh that even being outside can lead to heat stroke. Our first heat wave of the summer is upon us. Brachycephalic pets (smooshed face pets like pugs, bulldogs, boxers, Boston terriers, and Persians) are especially at risk of heat stroke. Their anatomy does not allow them to cool themselves down as other dogs can. Brachycephalic dogs should be kept indoors at all tim...es during the heat of the day, aside from quick potty breaks. Even a few minutes of playing in the heat can be deadly for these guys. Other high risk pets include obese pets, very young or old, and those with respiratory or heart conditions. That being said, with the temperatures we’re expecting, any pet is at risk! If possible, bring all pets indoors and provide air conditioning and/or fans to keep them cool. Always provide fresh water. Limit the length of walks and go in the early morning or evening. Also, be sure to put the back of your hand to the ground before walking your pet to ensure the surface isn’t too hot for their feet. Be aware of the signs of heat stroke and take action as soon as you recognize them. Heat stroke is an emergency and only has about a 50% survival rate. Have a great week and stay cool!
We'll be closed for the holiday weekend, Saturday through Monday, and we'll be back in the office on Tuesday. Have a nice weekend!
Please don't leave your pets outside without supervision. We see occasional coyote attacks as it is, but mountain lions can be especially dangerous. Stay safe out there!
Ashleigh and Sheldon can finally put away their matching winter hats :) (this picture was taken a few months ago when they were much needed!) The doctors will be out of the office tomorrow, Thursday 4/1, and we're closed Saturday 4/3. Dr Clark will be in during normal business hours on Friday. We hope you have a nice weekend and enjoy the warm weather!
Did anyone get any fun pictures in the snow before it melted away?? Let's see 'em!
Phew, what a year! We'll be closed Thursday, 12/31 through Sunday, 1/3 for the holiday weekend. We can't wait to see what the New Year brings! We plan to continue "curbside service" into next year until it's deemed safe to return to normal operations. Thank you to all of our wonderful clients this year that have trusted us with the care of your furry family members. See you next year!

Last night, Governor Newsom announced a state-wide Stay-At-Home Order. Veterinary care is an essential service, but we're going to be reducing the services we're providing while this order is in place, in order to remain compliant and keep our clients safe at home when possible. We are postponing all wellness/vaccine visits for healthy adult pets except those due for Rabies vaccine. We're also postponing all spays and neuters, as well as grooming-only appointments like nai...l trims and anal sac expressions. Additionally, effective this morning, we have gone to curbside service only and are having clients stay in their cars while we care for their pets inside. We know that this takes away from the family atmosphere we love here at ACH, but our main focus is keeping our staff and clients safe during this pandemic. For more information on policies we're implementing due to COVID-19, please visit www.YourAnimalDr.com/covid-19

Animal Emergency Clinic created this awesome informational post about Parvovirus. With all the new puppies we've been seeing, we've unfortunately been seeing parvo cases as well. Be sure all of your dogs are properly vaccinated to prevent this horrible disease. If your young dog experiences any of these symptoms, seek treatment asap.
It's heating up out there! Please be aware of how hot the asphalt is before taking your pet for a walk, or even having them walk across a parking lot. Severe burns can develop quickly. Another option is to get some snazzy shoes like Desa pictured here! :) This is also the time of year that we see heat stroke, even when taking pets out in the early morning. Short nosed breeds like bulldogs and pugs are especially vulnerable. We wanted to thank all of our clients for their... patience while we try to keep up with our busy days. We really appreciate you all and hope you're all staying safe! If you need to request an appointment, you can do so online anytime at www.YourAnimalDr.com, or give us a call See more
Luckily Moondoggie is such a good boy, because he could have taken Trina for a ride! He's a gorgeous Great Dane and weighs 178 lbs!! What are your favorite breeds? Request an appointment any time online at www.YourAnimalDr.com
We're closed today in observance of Memorial Day. Wishing everyone a safe weekend You can still request an appointment online at www.YourAnimalDr.com or through your Petly.com page.
Happy Mother's day from ACH!
We're so thankful for our amazing clients! We've had clients hand make masks for our staff, bring us food to get us through our day, and yesterday Buster came in with the sweetest sign! Isn't he the cutest?? We really appreciate you guys and how supportive everyone has been. Thank you!! Request an appointment with Dr Boyd online anytime at www.YourAnimalDr.com
We've gotten to see some really cute newly-adopted pups lately! Zoey was eager to give everyone kisses, and wasn't going to let our masks stop her! :) While we are postponing wellness visits for healthy adults, we're still here for your pets if they're sick or injured, as well as vaccine visits for puppies/kittens and rabies. You can request an appointment online anytime at www.YourAnimalDr.com or give us a call!
With the recent rains we've had, weeds are popping up everywhere! Foxtails start off as a wild grass with spear-shaped seed heads that, when it dries out in early summer, can burrow into your pet and cause serious damage. We spend all Summer and Fall pulling these pointy weeds out of pets' ears, eyes, and feet. They even get snorted up noses! They can cause ruptured ear drums, corneal ulcers, abscesses, or worse. Be sure to clear your yard while they're still green to prevent problems later on. We're still seeing appointments for sick or injured pets; give us a call or visit www.YourAnimalDr.com
I think mine would come home with nothing but peanut butter, jerky treats, and tuna, though I don't know that any of it would actually make it home! How about yours? We remain open, though we are closing for the weekend for some much needed family time. While we continue to postpone wellness/vaccines visits for now, we are here if you need us! Request an appointment at www.YourAnimalDr.com
Many of you have questions and concerns about how this outbreak affects pets. The American Veterinary Medical Association is a great resource for our questions. We're still learning about this virus but at this time, there is little to worry about regarding our pets. Phew! That being said, we don't know if and for how long the virus can live on fur, so please let staff know if you're experiencing any cold/flu/fever symptoms so that we can take extra precautions when handli...ng your pet. Please see our pinned post for info on appointments we're currently able to see, and visit our website for even further details www.YourAnimalDr.com We're currently keeping normal business hours, as is Animal Emergency Clinic (760-962-1122) for nights and weekends. We're here for you!
