Just breathe. This past 8 weeks the Breath has carried me through so much - I nursed my son around the clock through COVID-19, we also had multiple emergency visits and at the end of us all getting better we welcomed a beautiful puppy (more on that later) only to have him get very sick and end up in animal hospital, twice. Amongst all this, I held my son, screaming as the stitched a severe cut on his eye, and again as they treated a cut on his actual eyeball (excruciating). I... sleep beside him every night to watch his breathing, all the while monitoring my own oxygen levels (a post COVID-19 symptom is ongoing chest pain). During this time we are renovating our new home, 2 of our construction team lost immediate family members to COVID-19, and I've sat unable to hold their hands because of this terrible virus as they grieve their losses. I've made difficult decisions after watching family members make selfish decisions that put their lives and others lives in harm's way. I've picked up the pieces after a dodgy contractor messed up our project, and navigated challenging conversations. I could go on, but you don't really need to know all this. People often message me asking for my story, how I got here, what I went through. But truly it doesn't matter. My clients are reading this for the first time, just as you are, this is just all stuff, a story, and the mind can build a narrative around it, it can see it as overwhelming, cursed, tragic, or any other drama fueled story. To me it is a series of events that have already passed. I show up to my clients, to my construction team, to my son, the same each day - with an authentic smile on my face and a calm presence. How? I am calm because I Breathe. I focus on this breath, nothing more. I Breathe in THIS moment. I spend my day breathing. We all breath, but to truly breathe brings us peace, calm and joy. To Breathe with intention is what carries us through every moment, even the worst. If you have a question about Breathwork drop it in the comments. I'll be back as my Breath permits, to share more, give more, help more. Namaste. See more

It's been a month. Filled with roller coaster moments. Yet not once did I get stuck in the lows,I sailed on right through to the highs. I whizzed past drama, flew by 'dodgy' people and sailed on by the waves of overwhelm. All that's to say - two things give me the clarity, energy & calm I need to be at my best for myself, my family and my clients. Yoga & Food. Specifically: breathwork and cooking. I haven't been on my mat nearly as much as I'd like (well outside of my teachin...g time that is), but I do breath work practices all day every day. And I cook for my family, every single night, even when I don't want to be in the kitchen. Why? Because I'm going to ride that roller coaster straight through 2020 --- so if you feel stuck in the low point tonight, there's a loop and a high point just around the next bend. Find your Elixir. Or join me in mine See more

It's not about the yoga mat, what you're wearing or even having a spare 50 min for a full practice. It's about finding practical ways to integrate functional flow into everyday life. We are on day 2 of a 12hr (aka 18hr with toddler stops) road trip. I'm in a dress because it's over 110' (40c) outside. My mat is buried under all the toddler gear we now travel with. It's easy to make excuses. It feels better to move! This 5 min flow was done whilst the toddler ran around barefo...ot. I felt grounded, relaxed, stretched out and free of driving tension afterwards. I even squeezed in a little strength work with the goddess squats. Sorry there's no sounds, my yoga is better than my technical skills and for some reason the mic didn't record so instead you get this nice track! It's speed is x4. So you'll get the idea I'm moving slowly. If you like it, drop a comment below. I'm thinking of doing so one live stream classes too. Have a beautiful day. Time to drive! . . . . . . #yogalife #roadtrip #yogaanywhere #yogaanytime

It's 3am, I'm wide awake. Sleep eludes. The mind is busy, filled with what ifs. Do you keep scrolling or go back by to tossing and turning. You know you'll be exhausted in the morning. Know what I mean? Right now our sleep is impacted, our parasympathetic nervous system is having a hard time activating, made worse by the energy crutches like coffee that we are using to survive. Today I'm running on 3.5hrs sleep. But I will be ok. Why? Because I am intentionally choosing simpl...e recharge rituals to sustain my energy - hydrating, powering up my morning with protein and slow-release foods (like oats) and most importantly Grounding (Earthing). Woo nonsense? Studies right here in the US have shown that Earthing enhances vagus nerve transmission and thereby improves stress and inflammatory regulatory mechanisms. In fact one study showed a positive effect on preterm infants vagal nerve tone within a matter of minutes. What does all this mean? Barefoot on the earth activates your parasympathetic nervous system (rest & digest) and deactivates the sympathetic (fight/flight). It reduces anxiety, improves sleep, decreased PMS symptoms, improves circulation, reduces pain, strengthens immuno response and more. Not convinced? Good, decide for yourself. If you have any pain or tension, try this simple experiment: Go outside barefoot. Walk, stand, or sit barefoot. Note your approximate pain level. Stay barefoot on the grass, soil, rock or concrete for 30min . Note your pain level again. In the majority of cases, you will find that it has improved. You feel better. This isn't magic, it's science. You are your own best healer - you don't need all the 'stuff', start with barefoot on the earth. Let me know how it feels! . . . . #groundingtechniques #groundingenergy #vagusnerve #anxietyrelief #motherhood #barefoot #naturelovers #rootchakra #postpartumanxiety See more

Secrets uncovered. Do you have a secret buried so deep you've never told a single person, or maybe you've only told your therapist or partner? Last week a client revealed a 'dark' secret to me. It's the kind of secret that takes a lot of courage, trust and safety to reveal. This is the power of yoga. To create a space so deeply sacred that we can all shine a light on the darkest parts of our story, and allow them to breathe, to exhale. On the other side of the exhale there is... light and love and joy - even if at first there is only a little bit. Earlier this year, I learned a technique that helped me *FINALLY* release a trauma I had been holding onto for several years. I had tried multiple forms of therapy including EMDR (which is brilliant btw) and yet this single session allowed me to process my experience and move beyond it. Now, I can now talk about this trauma without being overwhelmed by pain, sadness or shame. We don't ever fully let go of a memory, but we can release the pain, trauma or grief around it. Right now I'm sharing this Mindfulness practice with some of my clients and in the very near future I hope to share it in a group context too. Anxiety, grief, trauma, we have all experienced it to some degree at some point. It is possible to move beyond it, once we recognize where we are storing it in our body, and what our mind is holding onto. Can you relate? . . . . . #meditation #brenebrownquotes #courage #motherhood #postpartumanxiety #postpartumdepression #mindfulmotherhood #mindfulparenting #motherhoodrising See more

I ditched my favorite drink! Back in my twenties I drank 3+ cups of coffee a day, sometimes more. I also had PCOS and severe anxiety. Coffee wasn't the cause but it did make me symptoms much worse. Coffee was my crutch. It made me think I had more energy, more drive, more focus. In reality, my adrenaline and cortisol were so out of control it took me nearly 2 years to get my nervous system to re-regulate. When COVID hit I found I wanted coffee more - but now I know what that ...means. My mind thought it needed a crutch to deal with the stress, exhaustion and overwhelm. Here's how I actually start my day - giving my body what it needs, then and only then I can choose with intentionality and mindful awareness of I still want the coffee. My toddler starts the day the same way so don't let the kids hold you back. I'm super excited - one of my clients is starting the food & nutrition component of her Mama Elixir program this week - and I know it's going to be a game changer. I'm thinking of opening up a 7-day Mama Elixir Taster Challenge -- it's the perfect time off year to nurture & nourish ourselves with yoga, meditation, mindfulness & healthy eating. Hi there, we have all kinds of preconceptions what yoga is and isn't. For me, it's simply my lifestyle. Yoga isn't about fancy poses or bendy people. It's about connecting with your body every day. Living in harmony with myself and the world around me. Sometimes yoga isn't even about the movement. Although after 7 hours of driving Alexander & I definitely needed to move. I love that he was much quicker - he always reminds me to let go. It takes me a few more half sun salutat...ions to get my mind clear and my body flowing. Wherever you are - move more, breathe more, flow in this moment. It feels good! Enjoy our little roadtrip pit stop yoga flow. Sped up X2. This is really all it takes. . . . . . . . . #familyyoga #mommyandmeyoga #yogaflow #postpartumbody See more

Back pain after every long drive? Roadtrips can feel like torture to backs, hips and pelvic floor. And between snacks and sitting out digestion feels sluggish too. we desperately count the minutes shifting in our seat. BUT!! There's another way. My favorite part of Roadtrips is finding a grassy patch (or at the very least a gas station cat park) to move! . I kept this in real time so you could see how in 4minutes you can help tight back, hip and shoulders...and even sq...ueeze in a pelvic floor release & neck stretch. Key point: posture!! Soft knees, hinge from the hips when you fold (move from the pelvis not the lower back) and breathe - the EXHALE is where the really good release happens. 4min - that's the time it takes to fill a tank of gas. So next pit stop, move with me! It feels really good Let me know what you think! . . . . . #yogaforbackpain #backpainrelief #moveyourbody #mamaelixir #stretchingexercises #yogamum #yogamom #yogimama #postnatalfitness See more

Lower back pain is annoying, it's also totally treatable 99% of the time. but most of us find it comes back after a few days... been there? I have this client and we've been working together for a while now, when we started she hasn't had a day in over 2 years where she didn't rely on pain meds. She was beating herself up because she couldn't play with her kids without being in serious pain. She'd had the scans, the chiro sessions and even seen a top notch pelvic floor PT. Bu...t nothing had worked. So here's an exercise she now does everyday... and she's 6 months free of pain meds. Now let's be clear, there a lot of other things that went into her RESET, but these 2 movements, done daily, are going to reduce back tension, improve spinal alignment, digestion, reduce period cramping and will even help reduce fatigue. Oh and if you're #thirdtrimester you are going to LOVE this!! The spinal column is a stacking of 33 vertebrae, distributed as follows: cervical, dorsal, lumbar and sacral. If you slouch, slump on your tailbone or don't allow the spine it's functional range it's not going to be able to give you what you need back. Compression feels stuck, trapped, so if that's also how your head is give some love to your lower back and reflect on what you're trying really hard to hold on to or acquire more of. Try it and let me know what happens for you. . . . . . . #lowerbackpainrelief #yogaforbackpain #prenatalyoga #postnatalyoga #yogainbed #backpainrelief #prenatalfitness #pelvicfloorexercises #pelvicpain

This stretch dates back to before the 1500s and is one of 15 poses that made the cut into THE original yoga handbook. So trust me, you're going to like this one. It lengthens the lats, opens the chest, improves breathing, stretches the triceps and shoulders AND helps release tension and anxiety. Stick with it daily and you'll see the shift. Look out for my alignment cues - they matter! If you slouch or arch the lower back you cheat yourself of the goodness. If you focus on to...uching the fingers, you missed out on the juicy goodness. Reset and feel where the goodness is. Inhale to lengthen, exhale let it all go. . . . . . . #iamwellandgood #mindbodygreen #mindandbody #fourthtrimester #quarantineyoga #practicenotperfection #betterforit #breastfeedingtips #quickworkout #yogaformoms #postpartumfitnessjourney #newmom #newmum #activeliving #athomeworkouts #athomeworkout #quarantineworkout #gomukasana #shoulderstretch #shoulderworkout #shoulderstretch

We mamas tend to hold stress in our neck & shoulder region as well as between the shoulder blades. This 90sec stretch will release it! Seated Garudasana also improves postural alignment and promotes back breathing. Try it right now, wherever you and let me know how you feel afterwards.
