BRANDING Totally digging the vintage California vibe of the Monterey beer brand. Evokes skateboarding, VW vans, Pacific sunsets, cut-off jeans, and halter tops. Were they simpler times? I don’t know. LESSONS This one may be a little swirly, but resonates nonetheless. Growth can be painful; it can even register as loss or regression, at times. But whether it’s employees, clients, or friends, sometimes the path to personal and professional expansion means moving forward with a lighter load. The universe knows this better than we do.

WORTH One of the biggest challenges facing small business owners/entrepreneurs/freelancers is justifying one’s value to potential clients. More specifically, those of us who are senior in our areas of expertise must often explain why our services cost more than recent grads or junior talent. It can be frustrating and tempting to settle for less, but I remind myself that I’ve built a business (nearly 100% referral) over the past 11 years that delivers excellent work fast with friendly and committed account management. And that is worth every penny.
