$15,000 grant for small businesses! San Jose Small Business Rent Relief Program The City of San José has allocated $3.8 million of CARES Act Federally Funded Coronavirus Relief Funds to provide grants of up to $15,000 to small businesses located in San José. The grants can be used for unpaid or pending rent from March 1, 2020 through December 30, 2020. The program will be managed by the Enterprise Foundation / Small Business Development Center (SBDC) which will begin acceptin...g online applications on Wednesday, September 9, at 12:00 PM PT through Tuesday, September 22, 12:00 PM PT. The application period may be extended past this date. Eligibility Requirements The following criteria will apply: For-profit businesses including sole-proprietors and single-person businesses may apply. Business must have 10 or fewer full-time employees (FTE). The business must have experienced a 20% gross reduction in revenue or a 20% reduction in staffing due to COVID-19. Business must be active and working to continue. The business owner must live in Santa Clara County. Physical commercial address must be in San José. Businesses must have been in business prior to January 31, 2020. The business owner’s household must own at least 51% of the business. The maximum family income for the business owner must be at or below 80% of area median income by family size (please refer to the San José income limits chart). Businesses that have applied for or received a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan, SBA Economic Injury Disaster loan (EIDL), or San José CDBG Microenterprise Grant money can apply for this grant. However, awardees must agree not to use Rent Relief grants to pay for rent that has been or will be paid for using PPP, EIDL, or San José CDBG Microenterprise Grant money. Ineligible Industries Home-based businesses are ineligible. Businesses that are franchises, chains, or restricted to patrons above the age of 18 will not be eligible for a grant. Nonprofit organizations and childcare businesses are not eligible. A separate CARES Act federally-funded program to address childcare is currently being developed by the City of San José. Throughout California, we are embarking on another despair: Wildfires. With more than 7 counties currently engulfed in flames, 5 reside in the Bay Area. Gov. Ga...vin Newsom has officially declared a state of emergency as of Tuesday. Authorities late Tuesday issued an immediate evacuation for the residents that live in or reside near: SCU Lightning Complex. The evacuation order applies to areas north of highway 130 to the county line, west of San Antonio Valley Rd, west of Mines Rd to the County line, east of Three Springs Rd and Mt. Hamilton Rd and south of the county line. The SCU Lightning Complex consists of 20 separate fires in three zones. What does this mean to our community here in East San Jose? It’s a reminder that we must take precautions with safety measures. The quality of air is extremely dangerous, and unhealthy. It is crucial that if anyone needs to step outside, masks should be worn at all times. Smoke inhalation, according to The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, can cause major and prompt effects to our lungs, and our hearts. Also, make sure that your pets are safe as well. Keep them inside and if necessary, make sure you have pet carriers and food in case of an emergency.
